it allocates memory to streaming textures afaik, basically the more memory you give it the less memory there is for other things. too high and you may get more stutters and crashes. try finding a decent point, like medium as previously mentioned

Not using latest drivers though... (the previous ones) |
I run it on an 560 overclocked (I'd say around 30% better card than yours-assuming you didn't OC) and it's very much playable, doesn't dip below 50 - all maxed, except ubersampling

i have 512mb and can't get it to run normally without texture downscaling
i have to put it on low for it to stop stuttering like a bitch . everything except ubersampling is turned on though and on max

thanks for explaining this.
I put texture memory to large and my suttering went away, lol im a dumbass. it auto detect'd it to medium and I only lowered it and it made the stuttering worse but on high its flawless now. I thought the setting did something else.
i guess if you have it too low it causes stutters to.

Seems like it was the ubersampling that slowed it down on my comp. Maxing everything and ubersampling off -> runs perfectly

1 of 2 options:
1) Downsampling Low /Texture memory Medium (bit lower Texture quality, hardly noticable)
2) Downsampling Off / Texture memory low (texture popin, very noticable)
Option 1 looks far better imo. Gray slabs of shit suddenly popping a perfectly sharp texture vs a...welll perfectly sharp texture thats already there as soon as you look at it.

does anyone think the blur effects is worth to have on?
heres the description from the read me:

I'd say it looks better with all that stuff off (apart from the SSAO), most of that stuff makes shit more blurry, including water rain surface effect.

There's one blur effect that I'd say it's "worth" to have it OFF. And that's the Motion Blur setting.
I personally found the rest of the blur effects as very well done. Most noticeable use is during the cut-scenes, despite the (inexplicable) FPS drop, which, btw, isn't a major issue as once you get back in controlling Geralt, all is fine.
Still focused on waiting the patch to be able to play the game bit more "properly", although I doubt that this soon-to-arrive patch will mean very much on the path to having a FINAL (enhanced edition) game.

Anyone get some sort of strange black looking halo around Geralt? It's quite subtle but annoys me sometimes. It looks like shadows but its not quite right. It happened to me in Risen as well. Its almost a blur effect... I have a Samsung 22" LCD that works fine, so it isn't my monitor. Maybe it is intended to be there or its a driver issue.

It's the Ambient Occlusion causing this effect.

Yeah, motion blur was the first thing I turned off. I also turned off bloom (don't like it) at SSAO (to gain some performance), everything else is rather nice and not that costly (performance wise).

Just finished the game. Took me about 45 hours and I did every quest that I could find, plus I explored everything, even places that I shouldn't have explored, thus finishing a quest that I didn't even had. I wouldn't say that's short, as the first game wasn't longer than that, plus this one has a lot more replayability than the first one. The game was a blast. I won't ever say that it's above the first game I think, but it is as good as the first one, that's for sure. The game will be very memorable because of the story, characters, the amazing choice & consequence system and the incredible attention to details along with the graphics that make those details stand out and give the game the atmosphere it has, that very living and believable world. The music was absolutely great, so was the voice-acting, so yeah, the audio part was great too. Some don't really like the combat as I saw. I don't really love it either, but that's just because of some flaws in it and in the game itself, like that sluggish movement for example. Thing is you get used to it, I guess. The combat system fits the game, the whole witchers setting, very well. Yes, it got quite easy at the end, even on hard, but it's not like the first game was harder at the end and yes, I played that on hard too. That's pretty much what I have to say for now I guess. I'll start a new game with my neutral savegame imported tomorrow probably.

Performance wise:
With the rig in my sig, I get no stuttering or anything on high settings, including bumping up textures to high and LOD to normal
Never even had a slowdown
Regarding the Kayran trap:
where the hell was that? I'm done with the kayran now..but I went through all the trouble of reloading over and over to stealth into the back and steal the part as I was supposed to get, but then after I did that, no one talked about it again. I didn't get a diagram, just some piece.

Cedric has a diagram for it I believe. I didn't bother.. and the fight was easy enough without any special traps needed.

Btw, any of you guys reading the BioWare forums in the wake of w2's release? It's quite entertaining, how BioWare's new found derp audience is raving about conspiracy theories left and right to try and explain why the metacritic user score of DA2 is so low, while w2's is so high ...

yah motion blur is something I turn off in all games, drives me nuts.
I was set at at none on texture downsclaing, large texture memory (stopped the stuttering for me) ultra ultra, lod-normal. and dof gameplay off, ssao off, motion blur off, and ubersampling and vsync off and I was getting an average 30fps in large populated areas so turning off blur effects gave me an extra 5-10fps so Im happy with the 35-40.
but I was wondering the effects in game like.... are they THAT noticable? I know the cutscenes ones are good and I like the blur on those....
