Gotta love how people complain because Deus Ex has highlights (50+ pages of discussion cause of this feature ?), and now cry cause theres no magic button that highlight and say everything about npcs and items, the medallion is more than enough to be honest, just go around and take time exploring for a change.
The important places/people are shown on the minimap. Only problem with no highlighting is that you might miss some container or such, which is hardly a big thing.

Fail troll is full of... what?
If you remember, people complained about FORCED highlighting. Nobody wanted garish yellow shit thrown in your face, showing you every secret and every path available. It was stated, many many times, that the option should be available - not a forced decision because of some developer's wet-dream, but an OPTION. Press a key, use an aug, consume an item, anything .. but an OPTION. A CHOICE.
Same applies to The Witcher and indeed any RPG of this style; press a BUTTON and you highlight items of interest, such as the names of NPCs or which of the eleven hundred and one barrels can actually be interacted with. Diablo, Titan Quest, Neverwinter Nights, Fable, Drakansang, The Witcher 1 ... all had the OPTION to press a button (usually tab) that highlighted POI. Yet you insult us by saying we're crying due to the lack of OPTION in this game? Jog on

Important people are only shown on the map if the quest demands it (such as a blur dot or circle) - the names of individual people are only available when you're close enough to talk to them, which makes finding a specific person - in a sea of others - a mind-numbing task. Once again, the first game had this option.

Which troll? The one from the DLC quest? I really couldn't say, because I didn't kill him :\

Spoiler:
You get a troll tongue, which you can use in the Melitele heart(spelling?) quest if you lost his mates tongue. I accidentally used the tongue in a potion, so I had to kill him to complete the Heart side quest
nice, replaced the exe with the gog exe and now my savegames won't load. New game apparantly works, if my game is now corrupt permanently i'm gonna murder someone.
it also seems like im the only fucking person on this planet with this problem. How the fuck is that possible??????????????????

So i completed the game and i gotta say it got ALOT easier as the game went on. Got an awesome armor and crafted me some epic silver AND steel sword. After that i felt invincible. Monsters did only minor damage to me and i killed most monsters in 2 hits. Only the bigger creatures took obviously more hits. My big tip is to really use the potions and bombs if you are stuck. If you know what is waiting for you behind the corner then just sit down for a second and prepare with potions. If you have explored every nook and cranny you shouldnt run into any shortages of materials to create these items. When it comes to the game itself i have a little beef with it. I had high hopes for the game after playing Witcher 1 because that game was and still is one of the best RPGs out there. All in all Witcher 2 didnt dissapoint. The combat seemed a little clunky. It might have been the minor lag i had but Geralt didint seem repsonsive at times to my button presses. The lock onto enemy was very clunky. I could only hit that target and it didint matter that 2 enemies where standing infront of me when i was swinging my sword they didnt get hit and only that target i had a lock on would get damage. Only when i learned a specific talent i could hit other targets than my locked target. Game length wise i think this game was actually shorter than the first game. It took me about 25-30 hours to complete it. Considering most games these days last from 5 to 10 hours max then 30 hours seems nice. The looting was also abit wierd. Not by which items i could loot but how it worked. I just walked into a merchants house, looted all his stuff in his cupboards and chests and then sold those items back to him. He didint even say a word when i robbed the poor man under his eyes... The monseter variety was lacking abit and the story teased ALOT of Witcher 3 really. It felt that his game was an introduction to something big rather than a full fledged game. Love that everything was voice acted and the cutscenes were ingame because the cutscenes reflected the items you wore and not the items the developers thought you might wear in a cinematic cutscene. It was a very beatiful looking game. Even on minimum. Its kinda odd how this game ate my PC although. Up to this point i have played most games on max and yet now i have to play on minimum. Something didint feel right. The game has a very grim story and i love how the developers didnt bow down to the rules America has set. The language is very straight. Alot of fucks and cuntes and whatnot were flying. Also they werent afraid to show off the female parts aswell. A full on soft core porn with 2 women i had. Very nice indeed.
All in all a recomendation from me. If you loved the Withcer in the first place then no matter what anyone is saying you are playing this game right now so this makes my little review nonexistant to you.
I started a new playthrough and have got about half through chapter 1, I made as different decisions I could compared to my first playthrough, but thus far ... no real difference. :/

Meh
It could be like the first game; decisions may have far-reaching consequences not immediately visible.
There's at least one significant decision that I know of at least that might give a rather different experience as I understood it, far reaching consequences as Sabin mentions is also highly possible.
(I didn't sneak out through the sewers during the castle part at the prologue section and instead met up with that certain guy I found earlier and then he sort of burned down the castle which was not appreciated, some people I also helped during the prologue reappeared briefly though I rejected the reward as to try and be a bit friendly.)
(Unsure if the chapter 2 prologue part can be done any different though but I took the warrior route and everything went not really as expected.)
I think you need her particular skills, I can't see any other alternative at least which would be effective in defeating that ting.
(The trap perhaps if you stole it's main part from that particular area but I think it's just like the Yrden sign otherwise.)
She is a sorceress and as you'll likely noticed or at least will learn they're pretty manipulative and power hungry plus a bit eccentric and odd but I find no reason to reject her help at least for that particular job.
(You don't have to romance her or anything if you don't want to, unsure if she's a valid candidate at all though aside from perhaps a quick one-time cutscene.)
EDIT: Emo? Strange to hear such a word in a medieval RPG but then again so is stuff like terrorist I suppose and the whole discussion ended up being pretty funny.
I've been watching live streams over the last few days of this game for hours, fantastic game.
Downloaded it the other day not played much, but i tried more before and It has to be by far the best game I've played yet.
The atmosphere the lot, top notch.

Can we all use spoilers here please... I've had to skip the last 3 pages coz of all the how did you kill the bla bla monster in bla bla ville...
On a side note the music in this game is amazing.. I love the one that comes on when you are in flotsam etc, amazing! Plus I had to kill some badass monster which took me ages! (I suck so bad at this game hahaha)
Can't wait for driver updates to run it even better than it is.. Im getting a decent 40-50 fps now but had to sacrifice some eye candy as a result
Only thing i seriously think is a bad decision in this game is lack of storage. I collected tonnes of stuff at the begining only to be laden down and have to sell it all off. i wanted to create a nice stock so I can make loads potions in one go etc.. Why force us to sell and buy good from the NPC's? Shame...

I'd agree with limitations on storage on games where you can influence your carrying capacity (Fallout) by stats or temporary boost, or where you can use quick portals to dump your crap (diablo, Torchlight, or again fallout), or where you get storagecapacity (for alternative gear or crafting ctuff you can't use now. Dragon age, diablo)
As that's not the case here, I went for the zero weight mod

Fuck, there goes my insane run! I died - what a shame. It was in
Spoiler:
chapter 2, at the fucking mission, where I have to get the armor relic from the underground thug, don't recall the name. I made a bad roll, got surrounded, and boom, was dead. Sure, I could have pressed esc when I got surrounded, and could have loaded - but that would have been exploiting.
So, a very smooth insane run, where I got through more than half of the game - but dead nevertheless
I will try again!
That's the spirit, you pain lover, you!
About highlighting. I remember that even Baldur's Gate 2 ToB had it implemented via the TAB button. But this time, despite being used to spot everything in TW1, I love the game so much that I wouldn't even be bothered if there wasn't any type of highlight at all.
