Loving this game
I have an Ati card and upgraded my drivers to 11.5. I came from 10.5 and it boosted my performance BUT
when I walk around in the game (also in the cinematics, I get really rough textures and after like a second they go to normal, like the graphics are loading to slow...
Example: I see someone with a brown uniform, I only see the brown surface and then after like a second I se all the details. And shadows aren't normal either, they have verry small squares in them... Not THAT annoying but still...
Wich drivers are you guys using for ATI?

Try experimenting with Texture Memory Size settings, in advanced configuration, to see if it helps.
In theory, if value is higher, texture "pop-up" will happen more rarely. But if too high, it would lead to steep performance decrease.

it's normal . u can lower the texture quality if u wanna get rid of it but i don't think it's worth it

Or you can increase texture memory size and keep the quality. EDIT: like peter980 already said.

Ok, the game keeps crashing for no apparent reason. It simply exits back to desktop without even a crash report. The last crash happened when I tried to open the map.
I bought the game, so I was wondering if this is karmic retribution for not buying the first Witcher?
Specs:
intel Q8200
Nvidia 450GTS
4 GB memory.
I got the latests updates to everything, and it's a 3 week old win7 installation.
Also, got the 275 beta driver, but the crashing was happening with the 270 whql drivers as well.
Anyone have something similar happening?

But I got other Questions.
Anyone who found "Sword of Kaer Morhen"?
What's better, Hunter's Armor or Astrogarus's Armor? (why do you get it so early anyway?)
Is there a Superb Longsword or reciepe in Act1? (I know of the Cutlass)
*EDIT*
Btw, surprisingly, I found the reciepe for "Superb Witcher's Silver Sword" in my Inventory?! Can't remember where I got it from though |
Spoiler: | IIRC i got that after beating the endraga or what ever it was when i went to meet squirrel leader in the clearing with zoltan, not 100% tho |

EDIT: Checked a few of the files, this previous text was a bit incorrect, .XBM is some container it would seem containing a sort of .TGA but I can't see much more than that.
EDIT: Link to unpacker.

Don't let the xbm/xbt extension fool you, the ones in Witcher 2 arn't xbox related.

Spoiler: | I'm not sure if we are talking about same area. This is when Flotsom city commander ask you to get to his house to talk to him, at night. Then, while waiting, Roche can distract one guard, so you can stealth in around backyard.
If you get caught, there is no killing, you just get strait to commander. So you need to succeed in sneaking in order to loot things. No other way. |

Ah thx mate! Thought we were talking about the "prison break" area, as I've been searching (and cleared) every nook and cranny there.
______
Also some quick info about performance. Noticed that this time, with the GoG .exe the game runs now better on WinXP than on Win7, as in slightly higher FPS and/or smoother camera movement. With the SkidRow's paul.dll it was the other way around. Some might be interested.

Yes I just about noticed that sealab, I confused them with the XBox texture specific .dds format found in certain DLC after unpacking those (Specifically Dead Money for Fallout New Vegas.)
Further checks seem to be a container containing the real .w2mesh or what it was called and some sort of .tga archive for textures, entire setup seems pretty custom made for their engine such as .w2event files, custom .csv scripts, .xml lists for certain actions and much more, seems I was a bit off indeed.
EDIT: Timechange.

(It's basically 2x or such SSAA with certain mip-map adjustments not unlike those ATI use for their SSAA method, likely NVIDIA too, visuals are sharper and far less "jagged" but you do run the game at twice the screen resolution used and then it's downsampled so this is extremely demanding, especially on newer and more "complex" games.)
EDIT: Was posted while I was writing this. (Reply two posts down.)

Not enough.
Seems this game makes heave use of all the cores one can get. There was a benchmark pic around here (some pages back) pointing out clearly more than noticeable differences in performance between 2x, 3x and 4x cores CPUs.

Finish one of two monster contacts and you'll get it as reward. Not sure if it's for N or E monsters.
