Dont understand why so many didnt like the combat of Witcher 1. Imo it was a fresh change from the button mashing or the turn-based rpgs im so used to playing.
you actually needed some timing, especially if the difficulty was high enough.
The jump attack ala Brad Pitt from Troy looks very cool so hopefully the combat is even more fun this time.

My impressions:

I'm still in the prologue because I started over.

The combat is actually pretty difficult. You can't go around button-mashing, and even in the prologue enemies are pretty tough.

First rule: DONT. EVER. GET. SURROUNDED. Unlike Assassin's Creed games, in TW2 enemies gang up on you, and even 3 the weakest enemies can kill you instantly.

The dialogues are amazing, I love influencing people with the Axii sign (Geralt actually DOES the sign during the conversation, amazing little detail).

I have to go see my gf now, I'll play it later in about 5 hours.

The game is also well optimized, I have everything on high besies the ubersampling and it's about 50-60 FPS everytime.

Did you watch the Neon stream? It looked exactly like button mashing, and with the jump-roll move you can effectively escape any incoming attack. Granted, that was the intro, but still.

It was pure mb1 spam, nothing more, with rolling to avoid damage. In the Gothic games, at least you had to time your dodges, here, it's fucking stupid.

What were you watching, he constantly had to roll around, he was getting pwnt all over the place, you can use spells, traps etc. Even the weak enemies have to be respected.

Assassin's Creed doesn't have combat ... it's exactly like garus said.

To be fair the combat in TW1 wasn't extremely advanced either, all you had to do was select the style and repeatedly click the mouse button following the right timing. It was definitely less action-esque, but at the same time it managed to be rather satisfying Razz

(As for TW2, I have to play by myself to judge it, but I think that Radicalus has a point)

Radicalus watched the same feed as we did, and still says it's a button mashing Sad

Look, honest, that's what it looked like. MB1 spam with the occasional roll. Defeated everything. Now, I assume it gets more complex over the course of the game, with blocks, chains, what have you. Difficult enemies, but one thing won't change for sure, that is the rolling. It's just that good. If you roll right, I bet you can beat this game without dying once. On hardest difficulty. Rolling just seemed very, very strong. All the enemies missed with their slow animations.

To be fair you can't afford to die on the hardest difficulty anyway since you'll have to start over then. Wonder how that's accomplished thou. Will it delete your savegames or what?
