As an Australian I can tell you that GON and more specifically Internode (runs GON) dudes are a bit derpish. The review was of the PC version and playing MP against real people but that doesn't change the fact the games has a lot of flaws. The PC version is just as buggy if not more buggy (some people can't play wtf) and the core gameplay isn't so fantastic. I can't get over how fail the guns are. Sure you can drop people in a fraction of a second but the weapons just handle like arse.
I was playing on the broken plane fueling level just now and my security team had locked down the fuel it was ridiculous. The resistance team couldn't so much as sneeze before a gazillion bullets and flash bangs went off in their face. It was kind of amazing that a room that did have a good solid 3-4 entry ways was being so poorly utilized. The human enemy team must have been sheep. But again the guns, all we sec guys had to do was point and click the other dudes had to actually attack and be moving which reduces your accuracy to sweet fuck all.

I have installed both updates...still nothing. Everytime I click on the shortcut...it says Brink has stopped working. I don't even seen the splash screen.
I am running Vista x32...and just upgraded drivers on my x295.
Any ideas? I am sure the game is lame...but want to see for myself.
Thanks

Yep they still have work to do in the subject of stability. I solved most of my issues with an autoexec.cfg file but it's different for everyone depending on hardware specs. I guess more updates are on the horizon.

Well i got a dedicated server (somewhat) running.
Try to connect to sausserver.bounceme.net if that wont work let me know.
Port should be standard, 27015 i guess?
Not sure about a decent config file or what so ever, but this should work for now...
The way to play online:
Spoiler: | Quote: | Easiest way to make a server and connect to it for UPDATE 2 is the following.
Most important thing at the end, make sure to read!!!
I. The working game client - UPDATE 2
1. Download Skidrow's release of the game, mount ISO, install (anywhere on your HDD, doesn't matter) - do NOT apply crack, or any other file
2. Download Skidrow's patch UPDATE 2 (contains update 1 too) for the game, install - do NOT apply crack, or any other file
NOTE: if you applied the cracks already at some point, then don't worry, just reapply the UPDATE 2 patch from Skidrow, that shall override it with all the right files.
3. -important step- create a new steam account, a fake account, with a different e-mail address than the steam accounts you legitimately use. Use this from now on for Brink
4. Download GreenLuma, unrar and copy the files, then paste them your steam folder where steam is - overwrite the one file it asks for. (close real steam, if you haven't done so already)
5. Starting up the game, here's what you have to do: Run the GreenLuma.exe from your Steam directory - this basically launches a cracked version of Steam - log in with your newly created fake steam account. Once Steam connects, run Brink.exe from the directory you installed Brink in, and voila, you have a Brink installation capable of multiplayer!
6. Once in game just press Search to search for servers, and the game shall list all available servers for UPDATE 2 of the game.
7. Enjoy, while it lasts!
II. Setting up a dedicated server
1. Using GreenLuma to launch steam, download or update the tool called Brink Dedicated Server.
2. Using GreenLuma select the Brink Dedicated Server from the list, press Play, and the dedicated server console pops up. I will not include a guide of how to set up server settings, it's pretty easy, but the most simple thing you can do to make it work is type these things in the console:
exec server_objective_standard_vs.cfg
spawnServer mp/aquarium.entities
set si_name "your server name"
Like I said, this was just the most basic setup, if you want more complex things, you need to make a few cfg files for yourself ... but if you want to run a dedicated server, you should be able to figure this one out for yourself.
III Running a dedicated server and play at the same time:
1. Go to your Brink shortcut on the desktop, and add this at the end of the target line: +set win_allowMultipleInstances 1
That's it, go and have fun!
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: steam_appid.txt
In order to be able to connect to a dedicated server (or any other player's server) the steam_appid.txt of your game client and the steam_appid.txt of the dedicated server(host) has to contain the exact same digits (I suggest 18800)- otherwise you can't authenticate. Changing the digits in the game's appid.txt makes you lose your saved character, so here's what dedicated server owners should do (to make sure no-one loses their characters).
Go to "steam\steamapps\common\brink dedicated server" open steam_appid.txt and change the contents of the file to 18800
Note: every update for the dedicated server files to follow this one will surely also change the appid.txt - make sure to always have it contain 18800. |
|
Edit: if anyone knows how to setup a good config for this please let me know.
ATM i tryed this one, but it was for co-op and made my server crash after everyone left.

I don't call creating a fake steam account and fucking up my steam installation a working solution. Hope a better emulated LAN option comes out soon.
Singleplayer is truly shit never-mind the retarded turrets and AI.

Well I'm loving this game, so glad I pre-ordered. It is one of those games that you will either love or hate, its very team play focused and playing with the bots only is very frustrating as they do tend to suck.
Once the lag issues are fixed and some more DLC hits I'll be a happy man.

Well for the ones interested. I'm about 15 hours in on my retail copy and I'm really enjoying it. The teamplay is very deep, you really notice how you can overcome situations with teamwork, without it, you simply would have failed really hard. It's a rare feeling I experience, in any game.
Multiplayer is where it's at, whatever people consider SP / Bots in this game, just ignore that element.
