Got my new mobile phone with vodaphone uk.
Was surfing the net on ity today, got the phone at 4pm it's now 1 am ish.
Just got an email from vodaphone saying I've nearlly used all my monthly allowance?
WTF YOPU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME?
So wtf am i supposed to do now if say I'm at work and want to surf the net?
Wtf is it with thisa shit?
I've only download 3 apps and an update.
I'm new to all this so can someone explain please?

what kind of apps were they? and by update you probably mean software update?
You dont realize that software updates are around 300mb, thats why they always tell you to use wifi connection if you must download larger files
tbh i never break 500mb and I use my iphone for most of the day, playing games online, browsing, downloading apps.
EITHER, you downloaded a massive app like Fifa 11 (900mb), or your billing month is not yet sorted. You may only have a day or two of your monthly contract in your first month, so your allowance may have been cut by 2/30ths or whatever.
Speak to Vodafone, and check the size of apps BEFORE you download them on 3g.
Ahhh how I love my 20gigs a month on cellular data And even IF i should somehow break that, they dont charge you that extra per mb thing, they just lower the speeds! Hooray for boobies!
You all act like it's the first time you used a smartphone. That's what you get escapist for not configuring your phone before enabling hsdpa. I guess you have an android based phone, which means you most likely synchronized it with your gmail account, which on the first go grabs shitloads of emails, contacts and checks for updates. Just use droidwall and 3G Watchdog. I don't go over 200kB daily with weather and 4 rss channels as my widgets.

Switch certain things on/off etc.

I'm pretty sure net traffic is counted in into those 500mb... o.O
Meaning, it will be used even when just surfing the net.
If it's on the net you are gonna use your allowance - If you surf full pages like you would on your PC you'll eat that 500Mb in a heartbeat. You need to use a mobile browser and/or generally surf mobile optimised sites. I use Opera Mobile on my n97 as well as the inbuilt browser. I never get close to using 500Mb and I have 1Gb a month. Sometimes I watch summat on iplayer when I'm at work to just use some bandwidth up. However, when I'm at home I use wifi
