Shocked

wtf? Skidrow's version is 2.7GB, yet Steam's version is 5.6GB!! Jesus, you ain't kidding mate. Hey Valve? I'd like my 3GB back please Rolling Eyes

Skidrow always compresses their Steam releases using the INNO (I think?) installer.
I know because I was never able to compress them further (since they are already compressed) whenever I wanted to conserve some space.

Indeed, im running here on my AMD Phenom II x4 955, with 100% on all 4 cores, fps drops sometimes to around 30, average around 55 @ 1920x1080, everything maxed. HD6870 as card.

this game stutters like a motherfucker. camera likes to shoot around 180 degrees and what not, shoot to the left and right.

game looks fantastic though, and its pretty fun. i'm hopin these are crack related issues or something though

I was about 15 minutes in, passed multiple checkpoints, so I decided to quit and tweak some options to see if I could get rid of the massive frame-rate drops. I toggle a few things and come back in to find my auto-save/checkpoint magically vanished, load-game greyed out. Sad

Edit - Relaunched the game and it magically reappeared. Strange stuff.

On a related note - this game rapes my i7 Quad @ 3.5 GHZ. Bad optimization or time to upgrade AGAIN (just upgraded last august Sad )

Well, stuttering (noticeable even when the framerate is high), bad, clunky controls with keyboard and mouse especially when the framerate drops, (I haven't tried with my gamepad yet), 30 fps locked cutscenes, a UI/control scheme that has been designed for consoles, blurry post-processing (MLAA absolutely *had* to go but it's still more blurry than I'd like), questionable script, presentation, voice acting, and somehow the editing of the cutscenes feels very unnatural.. (is it because from what I've heard they were very long in the original game and perhaps they trimmed them down so much for this re-re-release, that their rhythm and pacing has been completely lost?)

I can't comment on the gameplay yet as I've played only a few minutes, I hope that and the story will be good..

Dont forget tho, HAVOC is quite CPU intensive.. With all the water being calculated on HAVOC... well it takes it toll.

I bet you miss physx now Cool Face

30 FPS locked cutscenes isn't completely valid, it's the same as running a video with a monitor tool and noticing the 24 FPS value, all cutscenes here are pre-rendered after all at 1.76 GB in total under the FMV folder. Smile

That makes sense, but I didn't notice that they are prerendered, probably because as I said everything's so blurry! and I didn't notice the switch from real time to movie file. Or maybe it's that it's late Cool Face

now with that knowledge, and the theta release... 1.76 gb movies and .13 game? xD

Heh, I assume they use 7-zip or some other really heavy compression, game is still about 3 GB without the cutscene folder. Smile
(Which is 2GB larger than that 1GB original X30 release. Smile )

And yeah it is pretty blurry, I barely noticed the pre-rendered cutscenes until the elevator scene early on as it transitions from one to the actual game, plus I was using MLAA with it, going to try and compare those.
(If my checkpoint survived based on the above replies, it seems restarting the game might solve that issue though as another person noted above.)

true. Stuttering absolutely all the time. Mouse acceleration problem also. Very very strong effect of blur. That's a fact: you need NASA-like multi-cores CPU. Otherwise, don't even try.

yep. i'd imagine its cause of havoc putting all the strain on the cpu from the water. i think the mouse acceleration is more of an issue when the fps is getting nailed and your stuttering. i had a part or two where it was silky smooth and the mouse felt relatively fine

e/ and the vaseline look over everything, it detracts from the visuals. they're still really good though, being able to disable that would be pretty good

I get around 40 FPS (according to fraps) average on my dual core (@ 4.1GHz) and a GTX 460. All on "High". It's definetly not the smoothest game i've seen but totally acceptable imo.

^That means it's CPU limited.
CPU can't send more then 40 frames to the GPU to process (probably due to physics, or whatever is high CPU demanding in this game).

P.S.
Which CPU do you have, by the way?

yeah looks like you're CPU bound since FPS doesnt change much with the lowered res.

edit: ah, ok, i don't keep up with your posts it seems
