I don't get it, so I can trade fake money for real money, except I can't because no banks are involved.

It's something similar to that : folding @ home thing, your gpu or cpu is working on a shit and it generates coins, the coins can be traded for real money, i asked a guy who is involved in that, he wasnt able to tell me how to exchange digital coins for real dollars, but he told me that 1 BTC ( 1 coin ) is now worth 3.5 $

there is a faq and on that faq (is another faq... no I'm just kidding Laughing) is a list where you can exchange the earned money. It's kinda cool, but the explanations are somewhat vague.

I found out that you could buy books with that, and that could be awesome ^^

So what exactly are all those CPU/GPU cycles used to solve? Also, how is a dollar value assigned to this Bitcoin currency, and how does it maintain a reasonable value (seeing as the coins are being constantly generated). Wouldn't the inflation on the currency put Zimbabwe's inflation rate to shame?

Quote:
What a lot of Bitcoin newcomers don't realize is that Bitcoin depends on 'mining' to generate new bitcoins. Computers run cryptographic hashes to find the 'winning' has which is less than the current difficulty target number. The computer that finds this hash is awarded 50 BTC. The difficulty target is automatically adjusted upward to keep new bitcoin generation at a constant pace.

Some quick research shows a handful of big players in the mining market who have invested heavily in high-end GPUs for dedicated bitcoin mining, some with over 50 GPUs running 24/7 for months now. These guys are bound to have huge quantities of bitcoin they are eager to unload when the price is right. Meanwhile, news coverage is driving exploding popularity, which appears to be pulling the exchange rate sky high. On paper, many of these guys have become overnight millionaires just by running a bunch of computers 24/7.

The moment these "millionaires" start to sell the coins and flood the market with their BTC, you'll see that thing falling apart :/ So either you are in it from the beginning and sell first our you just join later on and suck dick Sad

Feels as if it is to late for me to make money there.

THIS ofc only applies if you really just want to speculate! Money is always based on trust. If you trust that BTC will have a future, then you should definitely join.

Yep. And eventually making coins will become so difficult that it won't be worth the electricity of running the GPU's. And the entire market is ripe for speculation, considering a $1000 purchase of coins moves the price significantly.

I wouldn't put any money in BTC, but it's an excellent educational experience Very Happy

Never heard from them before, but I do love it, obviously what I propose is that the world economy was built entirely in a similar system.

Yeah, because us, people who fight for a cause and fundamental issues or problems, really just like to rant and speak about abstract problems, it's not like your fiat currency is driving the entire world economy to the brink of collapse.

bottom line is, you think I give a shit? let the humans destroy themselves, maybe the few that'll survive will learn an evolutionary stepstone lesson, it sure won't take a few dozens to convince billions to change their ways.

I always forget that you're not Human...

Anyway, to answer your statement, yes, during the entire history of Humanity, the only thing that has changed the ways and culture of masses were exactly the teaching and/or influence, (emotional, intellectual or otherwise) of small minorities or single persons.

Well back then humanity was like, what? a few scattered thousands with no means to acquire any kind of knowledge other than the ramblings of a delusional man? it's a different age and it's gonna need a much stronger impact to make any kind of change.

The problem of the modern age is that the average person lives in a constant state of illusion, where they believe we have reached and evolved into a great society which is responsible for the greatest age of technological enlightenment of all time, and they project this progress into the future, they are completely and utterly ignorant of the facts that show us that we have actually been in decline for the latest few decades and that the only true cause of our great society was the industrial revolution and the ubiquitous consumption of Oil, now that we're starting to run out of it, we begin to decline. But as long as people have their moronic robotic jobs and are able to pay for their cars, houses and vacations in Hawaii, they just go on though her days like nothing is happening, just wait until unemployment in Europe and the U.S. reaches 30% - 40%.

Humanity works like this: if you don't give them a BETTER and more profitable alternative, nothing is gonna change. nobody's gonna sacrifice his own desires for a cause, or that'll be just like religion all over again.
