It's logic. No matter how small the lines will be, you'll still be moving on lines the have 90° turns and not on a perfect round circle. Thus you'll have 4 instead of pi Smile

Haha... very clever and entertaining. There's probably something wrong with the repeat to infinity part. The perimeter would be defined as an integral in this case? Still don't fully get this one Confused

Well, if 0.999... = 1, then pi = 4

Because 0.999... converges on 1 according to some.. then 3.14159... converges on 4 at some point. Cool Face

0,999.... doesn't converge on 1, 0,999... IS 1. They both represent the same number.

this is why frant said if 0.9999 =1 then pi = 4

From dingo's link.

Quote:
No matter how many times you repeat the process, the circle is only touched tangentially four times (as defined at the start). To find the circumference you must touch it tangentially in all places. At no time will the function's rectilinear surface length resolve to a valid approximation of the circle for this reason (among others).

pi = 4 is wrong, which based on his message would imply that 0.9999 = 1 is wrong too. Neon is saying it's not wrong.
