picked up sapphire's "new" 5850 xtreme...that & 2500k, maxxes out without a blink.
It maxes out (1680x1050, 16xQCSAA, around 58-60 FPS) on a 8800GT & Q9550 @ 3.6Ghz here.
The gfx work well for Portal 2, but they are not that impressive really. They just manage to create something quite beautiful with an aging engine. The minimalistic and "boxy" level Design also doesn't need that much resources.
It's true that they aren't technically very impressive, but Valve's art is great and can make them look very good. A thorough rewrite of the engine will take place once the current one can't satisfy their gameplay decisions. That is because they're more interested in adding tech that supports the gameplay (eg they added portals support for Portal, they optimized the engine so that dozens of NPCs with active AI are on screen for L4D, they added heavily customized Havok code for physics for HL2) instead of adding the latest visual effects.
That being said the engine still has trouble with big/open spaces with complex geometry, true dynamic shadowing, streaming (due to its PC roots it's not built to stream parts of a map gradually, and that makes it quite inefficient for consoles and low end PCs unless the maps are really small - see the countless loading screens in Portal 2), so a rewrite will eventually be done, I agree.
But on the other hand let's also not forget that the engine can be made to look and run absolutely great: <- That's Source 2007!

The article can be downloaded for the iPad via iTunes for $1.99. For that amount you get a huge 15,000 word feature that shines a spotlight on all of the development behind Valve's hit puzzle shooter sequel. It chronicles Valve's efforts to make the game, including a canceled plan to make a prequel to Portal set in the 1950, via exclusive photos, videos and other "interactive experiences". It will be interesting to see if this experiment in game journalism is a sales success. There's no word if the app will be made available for other platforms.
Noooo, somebody... Please... Upload it!!!

Oh.. Didn't notice it! I don't have an iPad either.. Thanks though
Will pray for somebody to turn the texts and images at least into a PDF...!

! If you lost your saves after installing update, do the following:
Go to the root folder of Portal 2;
Default – C:\Program Files (x86)\Valve\Portal 2\
Then go to portal2\SAVE;
There should be 2 or more folders in there. Open them, until you find the one which has your saves in it, then copy the contents to all the other folders in the save folder.

I've always been a fan of the Source engine, and I think a large reason we see a delay with EP3/HL3 is that they are on the borderline of producing a completely new engine based on the same concepts that make it so great. It's appropriately named as it tended to have tons of files, not unlike what you experience with many source Linux installs, which has numerous advantages (dynamic loading, scalability, etc.) but also plenty of disadvantages (don't you love copying tons of files with mechanical hard drives? newer SSDs, on the other hand...). The fact that they are (necessarily) moving towards consoles makes it all the more interesting, as hardware like what the PS3 favors is based on streaming over bidirectional data flow, so you may see what amounts to more procedural-based designs from them in the future, rather than relying on the cheap technique of re-use that you see in titles such as Dragon Age 2.
Jesus, I was stupid enough to check out her other site links, what a fucking air headed bimbo.
She's a youtube whore, she has FIVE channels and she loves apple. she uses world dilemmas and catastrophes to earn cash on youtube and just doesn't know where to stop.
there is no possible way she will finish the game without extensive assistance.
blah, I must say, the player made this on purpose. Look at the video, she DOES NOT want to go through the portal, if she does, the video would be over in 10 seconds. That's all. But if you stay like that, like a dumb ass who pretends to do not know what to do, your video will be 10 minutes long. Like French people say, CQFD.

she better be doing it on purpose, cause if she isn't ... once her looks are gone, she's dead
