It's different in this case. The original Portal came out of the blue. Not much of a hype or anything going on. Because of that, it instantly got a raging mad fan base among both journos and other people and that's where the hype came from. In contrast do DA:O and DA2 for example, Portal 2 does not change the basic mechanics of the game or play/look worse than the original; in fact, it plays and looks better. So in this case, the reviews do not make sense, the game cannot be rated lower than its predecessor, because it does everything that did; and then some Smile

Ofcourse the reviewers can rate it lower than its predecessor. Portal 1 blew their minds, portal 2 not so much (according to some gamers) despite the fact that it did everything better. Games are not like guns or cars, whereas a gun with more range and penetration means a better gun, this isn't always the case for games.
If they would remake Super Mario World (an extreme example) and improved every aspect of the game, it still wouldnt be a higher rated game than the old one. Simply because it has lost its "wow factor".

I for one have never really tried portal 1, I got the orange box and had my hand full on episode 1 and 2. Gave portal 1 a quick look but never bothered playing it.
So for me, Portal 2 is really awesome and refreshing.

Can someone confirm if there is a separate co-op campaign for SP OR both SP and co-op campaign are the same? Also can we play co-op campaign on the PC using SKIDROW's copy?

so now im done with this game. both campains finished and i have to say it was damn easy. wish there would be more levels like last coop level.
most of the time you can just run thru the levels because its too easy.

but i dont want complain.
this is the best game i have played in a very long time (maybe since portal 1)

its completly different but also same as easy as single player. Sad
you can play over tunngle with a friend if you use the skidrow version its pretty easy except you have to "restart" the server after every chapter

Thanks freiwald. So I take it that's by manually loading those maps using the console commands right while playing over Tunngle right?

you just have to load the first map of the chapter.
so when chapter 1 ends you have to disconnect and start again with chapter 2 map 1 and so on...

there is a map list and everything you need Smile

Ehh? So there is NO Crashing issues in Portal 2? According to the link provided by you, there is.

Sure there may be crashing issues in the legit version. But those crashing issues aren't related to the crack and aren't solved by the crackfix. The people with the legit version don't experience the same constant crashes that some users of the first skidrow crack did. And now, with the crackfix, those constant crashes are *mostly* gone. I just finished it on the PC and it crashed after the very last "I'm sorry" scene.

You're just bitching for the sake of conflict and, frankly, that's lame.

The crackfix helped with the no error crashes but I just beat it and it crashed out with an app crash at "the end".

Should be interesting when published.

Some additional details: http://news.bigdownload.com/2011/04/20/the-final-hours-of-portal-2-teaser-site-launched/

Quote:
Portal 2 is already being praised as one of the best games of 2011, if not of all time (ignore the Metacritic trolls). Now it looks like the puzzle-shooter sequel from Valve will be getting an extensive behind-the-scenes feature via Gametrailers.com host Geoff Keighley.

Keighley, who previously did a huge "The Final Hours of Half-Life" feature for Gamespot way back in 1998, will apparently return to Valve for an article called "The Final Hours of Portal 2". A teaser site for the game is already online but there's no word on when the article will be released or what kind of format (written word, video, both) the feature will be presented.

Finished it, the humor was nice, it was a refreshing change of pace tbh. only puzzles I found challenging were the ones near the end, however nothing too frustrating. nice creative and original game.

and wtf is with the super 8 interactive teaser in the extras menu?

EP2. Also LOST had an episode in season 1 (it was Sayid centric) that showed some guys playing HL1 on a PS2.

I think I read the Super 8 teaser is part of an ARG for the film.

I haven't personally tried it (will probably do later), but someone else from another forum said this:

Quote:
I haven't seen anyone ever report this yet, so i'll probably shooting blanks now, but.... does anyone know will there be (soon that is) a fix to allow playing between legit and cracked. Because now when legit tries to connect to cracked it says steam validation rejected for both.

However I've not read anything about anyone trying "LAN" (Hamachi/Tunngle) with legit & cracked though.

From what I've read, you'll most likely need some new version of revemu to get it working (like L4D2) and that's unlikely to be released any time soon.

http://www.next-gen.biz/news/potato-sack-developers-helped-design-portal-2-arg

Quote:
The developers of games included in the Potato Sack, the bundle of indie games that users were required to play as part of the Portal 2 ARG in order to bring forward the game’s release date, were deeply involved in the project's design and implementation from its inception last December.

The ARG culminated in a request for players to run a selection of 13 games for hours in order to help GLaDOS “force a faster boot sequence”, which eventually saw the game released worldwide on Steam hours ahead of its US release.

Before that, however, the games in the bundle had been filled with potatoes and Portal 2 references, with some of the developers involved telling us that they were involved in the ARG’s design right from the outset.

“Valve invited a bunch of us indie developers to come out last December for a ‘Cross Game Design Event’,” explains Audiosurf creator Dylan Fitterer. “It was a bit mysterious, but definitely sounded like fun.

“Jeep [Barnett, Portal 2 programmer] coordinated with us most closely, but Gabe kicked it all off. He asked us to work with them in creating an event that put launching Portal 2 into the community’s hands. We were given free rein to design it and were also given access to any IP we wanted.”

Ichiro Lambe, president of AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! and 1…2…3…Kick It! developer Dejobaan, said: “It felt very natural. Valve gave us a framework and said: ‘You know all about GLaDOS. Now, she wants us to break out into the world. Go make it happen.’”

For independent developers of ageing games, the effect of dramatically increased player interest was significant. “It’s definitely been an excellent bump for Audiosurf,” Fitterer explains. “Actually, it was more like a mountain than a bump.

“At one point there were over 6,000 people simultaneously playing Audiosurf. Lately, over three years after launch, Audiosurf usually has [had] around 300 simultaneous players.”

I played the first 3 chapters (very little time to play unfortunately) and I must say I much preferred GLADOS attitude in the first game. In portal 1 it pretended to be "friendly" but as the game progressed you could glimpse more and more into her "psyche" as she went back and forth between false promises and veiled threats.
In this game however, she's just plain spiteful an childish, like saying you're fat, or ugly, or whatever. Much less subtle, and therefore less funny imho.

Dunno but the updated files that take up the most space are the ones here: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\bin

The exe wasn't updated.
