While I love my desktop, I want to get a laptop to take my gaming on the road. However I'm working on a limited budget. I have my eye on the Alienware M11x (stripped down model) for only $599 .
Specs:
Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo SU7300 (1.3GHz/800Mhz FSB/3MB cache)
Windows 7 Home Premium
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 800MHz

Its considerably less powerful then my desktop and I have no idea how well it will perform with the latest games. The only reviews I find is for the i5 processor model. On to the questions.

1. Will these specs perform ok?
2. Since Alienware has a reputation for being overpriced. Is there a similar or better laptop I can get for the $400 to $650 range?

That's the R1 with the c2d. Did you know the R3 has just been released? It might drive down the prices of older models. I have the R2 but I don't really use it much for gaming. It looks awesome though and you do pay a bit more for the looks and brand name.

Lots of info here... http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/

I saw that. But I'm stuck with the budget constraints.

With 600$ budget, it will be hard to find a gaming laptop but it all depends what kind of games are those, older or new ones?

I mean Magicka won't even play on integrated graphics

What kind of video card is included in that m11x for $600?

For the price it isn't really that bad. There are lots of videos on youtube showing it playing new games.

I think I've decided on the Lenovo Y560.
Specs:
Operating System: Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Processor: Intel® CoreTM i7-740QM processor with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology
Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5730 Graphics with 1GB dedicated memory
Memory: 4GB DDR3 1333MHz, maximum 8GB
Display: 15.6" high-definition LED (1366x768), 16:9 widescreen
Hard Drive: 500GB HDD
Optical Drive: DVDRW Drive
Audio: 2 JBL® designed speakers with Dolby® Home Theater™ surround sound
Camera: 1.3M integrated web camera
Card Slots: 6-in-1 card reader (SD, SD pro, grinhurt, MMC, MS, MS pro), ExpressCard slot (34mm)
Ports: 3 USB 2.0 and 1 eSATA / USB combo port, VGA, HDMI, Ethernet (RJ45), mic
Communications: 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet
Battery: 6 cell battery

Much better specs and price. Does anyone know if Lenovo is a good brand?

I think they should be good...
