Started craving for new rpg to play, and witcher/fable still almost month away
there been couple aaa rpgs i just never got into
Neverwinter nights 2, for one or another reason, game just didn't appeal to me, starting location isn't that fun,but when you leave town, and walking basically in straight forward line.. just ruined it for me, not to mention still doesn't support sli.. and runs terribly ;/
Fallout 3, first time i just found it boring.. second found my self in confined, supposedly open map, but with one way to explore it.. big city thats blocked in every direction , and constant ammo scavenging and searching for way to next objective felt more like a maze than open world rpg... or rpg at all , i loved new vegas tho
oblivion , attempted it couple times, when it released my old pc could barely run it and didn't support shader 2.. so had to use those mods to make it run.. and all that hassle, then whole kill a guard get best equipment , and constant load times every time you enter building/shop/whateva just felt so broken
third i got lots of mods and all stuff.. took ages to get working, and in the end it kept crashing, bugging out.. got stuck in some dungeon labyrinth and it ended there
divinity 2+ expansion , managed to play divinity 2 for good while, but never finished , then expansion + remastered came out and saves became unusable , so never really started either expansion or just replaying first one to have whole story , as game never pulled me in that much
what im looking for someone to recommend me some rpg, a mod maybe, or just reasons why i should play any of above , would appreciate if you wont start naming 15 year old rpgs , while i loved old games, i just have hard time playing those 640x480 on today monitors..
btw im looking for a game i might never heard, or forgot, not those big names rpgs we all played and know
Geneforge Series
Avernum Series
Knights of The Chalice
Planescape: Torment with fix packages and widescreen patch
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura with drog update and hires patch. 'sup drog'
Fallout 1
Fallout 2 with MiB88 Megamod
Baldurs Gate II with bigworld.
Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines with wesp patch
I'll let Epsi take care of the TRUE classics (read: the stuff you should play before even you even qualify as "someone who likes RPGs") and I'll add a couple randoms that will most likely draw the ire of Epsi
I'm a huge hack'n'slash fan, so (and yes, I know you said you want relatively unknown games, but meh...)
Star Wars: KoTOR 1+2 (should really go without saying)
Sudeki (PC/Xbox1, enjoyed this immensely)
Venetica (PC/360/PS3, similar to Sudeki)
Din's Curse (Everyone should have this, classic Diablo-alike)
Depths of Peril (prequel to Din's Curse)
Titan Quest (See above)
Divine Divinity (much better than the sequel)
Sacred Gold (Should be in everyone's collection, fantastic game)
Restricted Area (meh, I liked it. Very cyberpunk hack'n'slash)
Loki (similar to Titan Quest, but Norse mythology as opposed to Greek)
Space Rangers 2 (Truly magnificent space RPG with some great text-adventure quests too)
The I of the Dragon (not really sure I'd class this a true RPG, more like a Dragon-based shmup crossed with Populace with a smattering of RPG "elements" Still great though)
Eschalon (series, starts with Book 1. Ultima-esque true RPG. Surprised Epsi didn't mention it)
Planet Alcatraz (Cross Fallout 2 with Jagged Alliance. Profit)
The Fall: Last Days of Gaia (everything Fallout 3 should have been)
Starpoint Gemini (Indie space RPG/Opera, rough around the edges but worth every penny)
If you haven't played yet, Baldur's Gate now is the time. You really don't know what you're missing. BigWorld or Trilogy mod, just play it. It's big, great..... one of the best games ever. Thanks to the FPS dictatorships, I didn't played most of the classical RPG games, during 1998/2008. I've a lot to discover. And Baldur's Gate deserves all the fame that it gets.
Yeah I should've mentioned Eschalon ... I am shame
And Gothic 1+2 with Night of The Raven.
And Risen of course.
Gothic 3 with the community 1.74 patch is very nice as well.
Morrowind, if you can take your time modding it.
Also I failed to mention some obvious ones as they require a bit of tinkering nowadays, if you don't buy them on GoG.com.
Realms of Arkania 1 through 3, though 2 and 3 stood the test of time best.
Betrayal at Krondor - one of the best rpg's ever!
Ultima VII: The Black Gate, Serpent Isle - can both be played with Exult on modern systems.
Dark Sun: Shattered Lands
Albion
http://morrowindoverhaul.net/blog/ Sound and graphical overhaul in one pack for morrowind. Easy install.
Good find. I recently uninstalled morrowind because i didn't find it graphically immersive enough. (got boring quite quick.. modern graphics has ruined me ). But with that I am willing to give a second shot.
I'll add The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, Ultima Underworld, Darklands, Divine Divinity, Might and Magic VI, Might and Magic VII and Wizardry 8 to the list.
Also, I start playing ToME4 recently and I'm in love with it.
DaggerXL: A The Elder Scrolls Chapter II: Daggerfall Engine Remake
Nehrim way better than vanilla Oblivion. It has better story, more gameplay hours, improved gameplay, awesome missions and so much more....
Voice acting is in german with english subs.
Its a total conversion,so you could say it's a free game that uses oblivion engine. Indeed, the terrain, cities and people remind me more of Gothic 2, than Oblivion.

ye i remember all the hype it caused here.. but i found it worse than original oblivion, combat was really broken, graphics were worse than original oblivion.. i wont mention modded on.. , there were other numerous bugs even in first mine.. and did i mention combat?
it was all about either getting one shot.. or watching stuff swing in the air whithout ever connecting.. not to mention extremely stiff movement

Well.. as of this moment, one (a)rpg i regret not having time playing is Sacred 2. And one rpg i regret spending time playing (to the end omg) was Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods.
Im very picky about my RPG's Usually i dont even play them till the end. A few games i actually found worthy of a full playthrough or still play.
Din's Curse
Depths of Peril (Dont play Din's Curse BEFORE this one... I did.)
Titan Quest (One of my all time favorite hackn'slashes)
Divine Divinity
Sacred (Loved it!)
X-com series (FFS! No mention?)
Baldurs gate
The Elder scrolls series
Neverwinter Nights
Yeah + it received so many fixes and free content patches despite the fact the game was already huge and relatively bug free. Lots of places to explore, tons of quets, from the most generic kill 10x spiders to the awesomely awesome in game blind guardian concert.
what about all those 2D rpgs on playstation 1? i agree with the 10+ year old 3d games looking... not too well even at higher resolutions, but 2D is timeless!
