Once you get a stable castle up and running this game really shines.
It can be frustrating when you're trying to start up and you keep getting attacked by the uber wolves and bandits, but once you have a wall around you (preferably stone) you're safe and you can concentrate on building up and gathering stock.
Game looks great and runs great, even with large armies on 1600x1200 2xAA 8xAF and max details. People who were having problems should definitely turn on early culling.
Most of the people complaining just seem to have trouble with the strategy of the game.

gah. Something completely hosed my game. Playing it for a while now and I got past the mission (peace) where you have to clean up the yellow and black guys castle. I was in the next mission and accidentally exited rather than resumed when I was checking an option.. since there is no auto-save, I was pissed becuase my save was before the yellow and balck guy, and that one took me like 4 tries. I didn't want to do it again. So I tabbed incase someone had put up an 'instant win' cheat yet. But there wasn't one. I went to tab back in and the game crashed.. now it won't run at all. I was playing it mounted on D-Tools with Anti-Blaxx. When I try to start it, it waits a second then I get an error for stronghold2.exe, tried unmounting, restarting the PC, etc
no go.
Do I need to reinstall?
any thoughts?
Seems strange a game crash would hose the whole game, I thought they fixed thar problem with software long ago..

It's probably related to the fact it's the warez version. I doubt it would happen with the retail game, but considering the amount of bugs anythings possible.
Well reinstalling seems like the best option.

U dont need that weird Anti-Blaxx shit
Running from Mounted Drive
1. Install game with Daemon - 1 or 2 drives, whichever
2.Disable cd drives with StarForce Nightmare
3. Change the Default Virtual Drive Settings to whatever.
Install Names - Generic DVD-ROM, AXV CD/DVD-ROM
Change em to whatever, and I used revision 2 for the drives. U can change the
settings in "Set Device Parameters" under ur Virtual Drive options.
4.Deny Access to daemon driver at admin level, read and write in the registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 3
You may have a different SCSI Port representing the daemon driver, it depends on hardware i guess? anyway, look for the entry "d347prt". Thats the one u need to block. Right click the variable and follow the menu -> permissions -> deny or something like that, to tired to go through it step by step again
5. Have Fun
This way of running the game is prolly on another forum or something and prolly written alot better

hmmm...clicking a link and maintaining ur privacy or connecting to the server directly and letting em have ur info ie: ip addy, dns etc...all the while using an illegal version and im sure they can tell if u are...thats why everyone has been waiting...?
You make the choice......
Just like SuperPower 2, everytime u load or start a new game, the joshua.exe file tries to connect to a server for "information"...yet the game functions fine when u block it with a firewall...

or...
1.) Install game (mount by d-tools).
2.) Setup Anti-Blaxx.
3.) Have fun.

Yeah I called up the 'stronghold 2 graphics configuration' link and it said 'instert correct disk' so I started it again through anti-blaxx and it oddly worked this time..no issue, and now that I found the pause key, that mission was MUCH easier. Note to all:
When you have to do the kings meal mission, pause, lay out your areas and then unpause...trying to do it in real time fails everytime.. it takes 1/3 your time just to try and set up the areas..wastes alot of resource time (even using pause its tight)

no im not, the biggest non-combat strategy in rtw is just the same as in every other rts out there, what to build next, where to move troops, nothing more. there is nothing special about the provinces, no decitions to be made, no priorities, nothing besides towns to capture. you get my point =)

Allow a "poor nub" such as myself, to assist you psycho
Build a "Carters Post" as close to the border of your main territory as possible (closest to the keep but not over the blue line that denotes the other estates territory).
Now click it, click the stone icon, select the biggest increment you can, and then click the estate with the Castle in it.
Little oxen instantly loads up the stone you have in your storehouse it appears at the Carters Post instantly, (even though the Carter post can be across the map from your actual storehouse, just as long as its within your estate border. Full of strategy game my ass), and sends it to the sub estate you specified. Slow as shit too.
The more you build the more you can send (have multiple shipping going). Just takes forever and a day to get there and back.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Well this sucks, the game was working yesterday, burned it on a cd and played from there. But today... can't get it to work at all. Tried the reg hacks, daemon tool rename, blaxx and all these things, but it just won't run.

They can't, you must have left a gap, check it in plan view. They can't get through a wooden wall either.
