I haven't heard this group until a few days ago, when among some other rubble that found it's way onto my WinAmp playlist, "Don't Panic" from their Parachutes album started playing. Since then I've found this song making every playlist I make... it's addictive: relaxing, thoughtless, and yet sad... almost depressed in a way. Beautiful, really.

Now I'm actually considering buying Parachutes or other CP albums. Anyone out there care to provide some feedback on the band, their music, and albums to ...erm... get... or to stay away from? Also, are there any bands that duplicate or exceed that relaxed, drifting depression mood created by CP?

Coldplay is probably my favourite band. Infact the whole dream-pop genre does wonders for me. If you're REALLY into such moody tunes, maybe you'd be interested in one/some of the following:

Thirteen Senses - Brilliant new indie group that takes chris' vocals a step further.
Keane - The obvious mainstream choice, ofcourse.
The Doves - They've been around for a while too. At first very similar to Coldplay, but you'll soon realize that they're entirely different. Good listen.
Longview - Another great indie group from manchester. They're the new dream-pop band to look out for this year.
Starsailor - Not really the best dream-pop out there, but close enough.

So there you have it. Some of my favourite alternatives to Coldplay until they release their latest offering this june. Can't wait =X

actually, I don't want to go too far into the pop genre, so I'll stick with Parachuted for now. the thought of waking up to "hit me baby one more time" (which, by the way plays backward as "sleep with me, I'm not too young") is unbearable.

sycoshaman what kind of music do you enjoy? voice = shit. you could have the shittiest voice in the world and have great music.

ps like the guy above me said... it's corny when people stereotype a song by calling it "pop" and disregarding it because they might not like other "pop" songs... many great songs will become "pop" songs, so would you deprive yourself of this music merely to avoid listening to "pop" music? rationality = no irrationality = yes.

music i like:
grunge (so i know alot about good music and slack voice Smile )
dancehall reggae
old skool rap (biggie, mob deep, mop etc)
black metal
death metal
acid trance
some happy hardcore
and ofcourse the old skool rock n roll ie: black sabbath, hendrix, stones, beatles, pink floyd etc...Jefferson airplane has some kick ass stoner songs..White Rabbit comes to mind

i respect that some ppl may jam to coldplay, but i just really dislike the singer (chris martin i think?) and i dont really like the music
its not that its bad, its just not my taste - but really, the singer kills it...

alice in chains or nirvana...curt cobain, lane stanely, even Eddie Veder (spelling? - perl jam singer) didnt have the best voices, but with the music and the lyrics, everything just fit together so well
Personally tho, I think Lane Stanely is one of the best over all songer writers and vocalist is rock history. I know many will disagree, its all good Smile

anyway, suffice to say i dont like em
and i just wanted to know why others like him?
like the lyrics, music, his voice etc

Syco I see

OK so, I have a similar taste in music, I like this style and several other variations...

If anyone likes some of the following bands could you give me some recommendations of similar groups?

Radiohead (OK computer style, not anything after it)
Muse
Travis
Coldplay
Thirteen Senses
The Decemberists
Eels
Dishwalla
Mayan Factor
Howie Day
Jack Johnson
Bright Eyes
Keane
Snow Patrol
Razorlight
Grandaddy
Elliot Smith

Anything I should try looking for similar to these?

When did BS, Hendrix, RS, Beatles and PF became ROCK'N'ROLL ?
That's something new...

About Hitman: Movie (2007)
Vin Diesel is a hardcore gamer, and absolutely loves the Hitman series. For that reason I have faith that he wont destroy the movie.

Response: Well, Uwe Boll probably loved the Alone in the Dark games.

Smile Lemme tell you what each of them are, since u think they are r'n'r Smile
Black Sabbath: Heavy Metal (Rock and Roll u say ?Smile)
Hendrix: Classic Rock, Blues Rock
Rolling Stones: Pop Rock, Blues Rock, Rock
Beatles: Pop Rock, Rock (If they have like 5 R'N'R songs it doesn't mean they are a R'N'R band)
Pink Floyd: Progressive Rock, Rock.

I can't argue with you, cause you probably never heard ROCK AND ROLL before... so for you i'll give some examples of Rock'N'Roll.

Rock'N'Roll: Elvis Presley (in 1950's), Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Joe Turner.
Get "Ray Charles - Mess Around" if you wanna hear a super example of R'N'R.

-Hope it helps Very Happy

you might wanna give any of these a try:
Doves
Engineers
Feeder
Aeon Spoke
Sigur Ros (anything except their "Von" album)

hmmm can't think of anything else right now, but that should keep you busy for a while.
