My PS3 slim just started fucking up...

It shuts down by itself after a few minutes, sometimes only a couple of seconds. It makes a clicking noise, then it's off. No lights or anything. I have to pull the power cable and plug it in again to be able to restart my console...

Sony customer support said I should send it in. But it is 1 year and 3 months old, which means no more guarantee... Those fuckers want 169€ now for a replacement console. Those greedy bastards...

So what should I do? Should I get that replacement for 169? Or should I sell my console on ebay and get a new one instead? Or is there any way to repair this by myself? I don't have much to lose as I see it, so might as well try that.

But I need a PS3, for games and as a Bluray player...

1. Sony are greedy bastards
2. Its not overheating
3. Its a common problem with Slims PowerBrick

use this tutorial how to set trimpots in your powerbrick and fix your ps3

or buy a new power brick for your PS3 SLIM and install it

and the funny thing is [he shows it in the videoclip] only the Launch PS3 SLIMS have those Powerbricks and those only have this problem then the later cheaper models that are now in every PS3 Slim [he shows those two Slim power bricks]

Ok thanks. Before I try fixing this myself I will send it in over a retailer. They said I should ask for some goodwill, maybe they will do it. If not, it's free and I get it back.

OK, so update for whoever might have the same problem:

After sending it to Sony, they said my guarantee was up, and charged me 25€ for that...

I got it back and repaired it myself. It was REALLY easy. It only took like 10 minutes in total, although it was my first time opening a PS3. There is not much you can do wrong, basically you just open the cover and adjust the 2 screws.

It works fine for now, I will have to see if it stays like that in the long term.

like i said before , Sony are greedy bastards ... oh and one more thing , i found why this problem was there in the first place : Vibrations from the BD drive [or from other things] and your PS3 was kicked around in store etc...[not kidding]
those are the #1 causes for this problem ,those vibrations make those screws in those trimpots move and some day your ps3 will go puff from those vibrations , well you can change the power brick for the cheaper without trimpots to fix this [they do this when you send them to Sony] or use something sticky to hold those screws in place
