1 day ahead, now that's something worth mentioning. I'm a little more optimistic now Very Happy

Only it's not 1-day ahead. The timer on the aperturescience.com website says 68 hours and 34 minutes. That's still only about an hour ahead. I think the launchedyet site is figuring the time to launch based on that progress bar which I don't think is correct. It'll be interesting to see how much the timer goes down when 123 kick it finishes.

It's ~ half a day if we continue at the same rate.

The glados@home counter is updated only when we completely fill the bar of one game, hence why it has been reduced only for about an hour.

Worse than Portal 1? The written walls textures were a joke even on PC.

Since the PC version is 2-3 times larger than the console version high res textures are a must.

That's what I hope for, but I wonder if it's mainly the higher quality sound files that bumps the overall size..?

I know for a fact the L4D2 "The Passing" DLC they released was ~1GB on PC but only ~0.3GB on Xbox.

Upon closer inspection of the PC DLC, ~0.6GB of the ~1GB were sound files! (~60% of the total)
The 360 version's sound files were ~0.1GB of the ~0.3GB (~33% of the total)

1 2 3 Kick it, will be completed soon (less than 5% remaining).

The amount of player*hours a game has to be played to be completed seems to depend on how many copies the game has sold through the years. This is why the bar for TWEOTW advanced so fast, while for example Killing Floor, who has a much higher player count (over double the amount of people that try to complete 1 2 3 Kick It!!!) moves very slowly.

It's funny, but because the pack was on sale for 14 days, and I assume it sold well, it's harder for us to reach our goal. Razz

24+ hours before the official release: cool
<24 hours: kinda pointless (depending on where you live)

Maybe Valve gives us a 10% reward or something when we reach 50%

It's a bit of a shame that it's slow, but I still think the whole ARG things is fucking awesome. A ridiculous amount of work has gone into it, both from Valve's end as well as all the indie devs.

Some are saying that it's a "lame" marketing stunt. It's a marketing stunt alright, but it's not as if it's ever been done before (fucking Facebook "like"s do not count), indie devs got some much deserved attention and we have an opportunity to possibly speed up the release a bit. I honestly don't see why some find it so "lame", as if EA for example would ever do anything like this Laughing
I for one welcome this shit, because even though I already owned a good portion of the potato sack, this once again shows Valve's support for indie devs who often create better games than 95% of all "AAA" titles out there; obviously it's a fantastic way to hype Portal 2 shitless as well, but that's beside the point Smile

I agree, but they could have made it more interesting. I mean the ARG was awesome and they had stuff going on for 14 days! It's incredible that they managed to pull it off!

But now that we are this close to release and we know what's the reward they're like "oh just idle in some games."(*) Seriously? Why couldn't it be new riddles and puzzles? Or new potatoes to find? ARG before yesterday = fun. Now = boring.

(*) I know they say "go and play the games you bought dammit, why did you buy them in the first place?!", but if you do that instead of idling for many hours/day you won't make much of a difference.

Yeah, I think the estimation will be around 10 hours before, but people will continue to play the finished games I think, so I guess it's around 1 hour before release. Oh, I forgot Valve Time which means it'll probably release 1 hour later than originally planned.
 Spoiler:

I think each bar we fill, is a milestone, and removes a few minutes.
I mean I think we have already ensured it will be released at least ~50 minutes earlier because we completed TWEOTW.

I remember that the developers of Amnesia had that "preorder our game x times and we will release commentary" thingy. Not enough numbers? No commentary for you guys! Cool Face

which is "worse" than what Valve is doing.

edit 1 2 3 Kick It finished.. 1 hour 30 minutes off.

Portal 2 developer Jeep Barnett says if enough potatoes (auxiliary power) are collected then GLaDOS will be able to overclock the CPUs (so we'll finish even faster).

of course the timer will stop only on April 21st, so the game should be playable only after that. With Steam, it's often like that.

A number of titles have been completed now via that challenge - http://www.aperturescience.com/glados@home/ - so it's at least under the 48 hour mark now. Smile

(48 hours being the two days to the release date of 19th April 2011 which is what Steam lists the games release date as, still with the amount of time that has also passed it's like just a bit over five - six hours advantage in total so not that much unless other titles also manage to be completed in time I guess.)

Mysterious news entry at the ARG wiki. Someone warns the players that glados is using them and that someone will die if they continue to help glados boot.
Could be a troll, but maybe the early release was never meant to happen and glados just lied to the players.
