i remember people laughing at people saying this is the end of warez, well peeps, its not the end, but its sure a MAJOR problem.
to be honest, i never thought this day would come, when a game (actually 8 ) stays uncracked for 6 months

Not all 8 games are 6 months old... Some are only a week or few... but some (TOCA 2) are even older than 6 months... Smile

It'd need hardware support in the console itself, but if that were done perfectly possible.

Could even do the decryption, etc, in hardware so that there's no performance hit in the game.

Though you probably don't want to think about that Smile

If I were you, especially with the advent of consoles with hard drives, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see one of the new consoles coming with Starforce based protection as their standard scheme for protecting games.

BTW you don't need a PC based console even, just a compiler for the high level language bits and someone who can program both sets of ASM well for the low level ASM coding.

That's exactly what I thought about... What do they change...?? probably encryption or something like that... or maybe they are playing a "scare game"... they just pretend to change something, to "scare" the crackers...

i was thinking another thing, maybe they make only minor but frequent updates only to prevent crackers to patch their drivers...
remember second sight carbon release with the drivers trick? i think carbons files works with every game that has the same version of starforce used by second sight...
can be a reason?

It can be a reason... They change just one thing with every release, so SF3 seems to have no pattern... or this makes the pattern hard to find...

Yup, of course it's all just done for fun, just version number change...

That or it's software that's constantly under development. Those who've analysed it could tell you that 3.4.71.19 was quite a big upgrade from previous versions as far as the VM goes.

RE: The encryption, it's not the mainstay of the strength of it all, it's probably just going to be a 1-time XOR pad or a minor variation. Question is obtaining the pad.

And no, they don't sleep, it's why SF3 is the best games protection scheme to date.

Take it easy, guys.

Starforce minor version updates may be related to compatibility fixes.

What do you think maybe the worst (the hardest to crack, or preventing cracks) part of SF3...

1. Antidebugging mechanism...
2. Encryption of exes and dlls plus encryption of other files...
3. VM...

I know that's it's all of the above plus some more... but on which of the above crackers spend the most time... How do you think...

But what if someone hasn't got another drive... It's stupid that he will have to buy an ATAPI drive just to play SF3 games... They probably couldn't fix it another way... so they disabled USB DVD support...

ICQ Starforce and ask them, numbers are on their website.

Stupid numbers it won't be.

While you're at it ask them for the source code.

That was good, guys. Smile

Please tell them that if you've to wait for the latest version then they're obliged to attach a tutorial too.
