This was the solution I was referring to the other day:
Quote: |
go to ps3 sound settings....select optical audio instead of hdmi...select all the audio codec things....press ok....then on audio multi output...select on.
this has worked for all cinavia protected movies for me..
hope this helps..btw...you dont need an optical audio cable!
|
It worked for me on the divx copy of The Social Network I had, not sure about anything else (I suspect it didn't work on the R5 divx rip of Battle LA)[/quote]

No one posted the news about geohot.. http://psx-scene.com/forums/f6/settlement-george-hotz-case-84881/
Quote: | Today has Sony published a Joint Statement on their court case over Jailbreaking the PS3 Console!
It claims a settlement has been reached between SCEA and George Hotz over the lawsuit that was filed back in Jan.
We OF COURSE being in full PSX-SCENE wikileaks style have NOW attached the latest court file basically detailing the settlement details!
In the meantime here is the statement that Sony made public:
Quote:
Joint Statement
Sony Computer Entertainment America (“SCEA”) and George Hotz (“Hotz”) today announced the settlement of the lawsuit filed by SCEA against Hotz in federal court in San Francisco, California. The parties reached an agreement in principle on March 31, 2011. As part of the settlement, Hotz consented to a permanent injunction.
Both parties expressed satisfaction that litigation had been quickly resolved. “Sony is glad to put this litigation behind us,” said Riley Russell, General Counsel for SCEA. “Our motivation for bringing this litigation was to protect our intellectual property and our consumers. We believe this settlement and the permanent injunction achieve this goal.”
“It was never my intention to cause any users trouble or to make piracy easier,” said Hotz, I’m happy to have the litigation behind me.” Hotz was not involved in the recent attacks on Sony’s internet services and websites.
In the action, SCEA accused Hotz of violating federal law by posting online information about the security system in the PlayStation 3 videogame console and software that SCEA claimed could be used to circumvent the security system in the console and allow the playing of pirated videogames. Hotz denies any wrongdoing on his part. Hotz’s motion to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction was still pending before the federal court in San Francisco but a preliminary injunction was issued requiring Hotz to take down the postings challenged by SCEA.
“We want our consumers to be able to enjoy our devices and products in a safe and fun environment and we want to protect the hard work of the talented engineers, artists, musicians and game designers who make PlayStation games and support the PlayStation Network,” added Russell. “We appreciate Mr. Hotz’s willingness to address the legal issues involved in this case and work with us to quickly bring this matter to an early resolution.”
In the meantime here is what GEOHOT has to say on the matter at hand:
Quote:
Joining the SONY Boycott
As of 4/11/11, I am joining the SONY boycott. I will never purchase another SONY product.
I encourage you to do the same.
There is much more to come on this blog.
I say we throw out everything labelled with Sony on it also, and support maybe Samsung instead??? I am sure they would LOVE to join into the GAMING WORLD, now that SONY has basically stated it is ILLEGAL to change their PRODUCT in any shape or form. Have a READ of our WIKILEAKS PDF file, it gives you all the juicy details!

Have you looked inside that folder to make sure there aren't any more subfolders that shouldnt't be there?

The fact that he won't tell anyone what they settled on means he joined their cause and is probably working for them now. lol

At this point i tried pretty much everything i could including making a modified Eboot for 3.55 and a bunch of otjer stuff i found on other forums and nothing works.
I gave up and dumped the rip (which looked OK btw. Not sure what's the problem). I don't really care about FF XIII anyway, Still wanted to give it a chance but it's too much trouble. I'll just rent it or borrow it from someone one day.

Don't forget geohot and graf are subject to two very different jurisdictions. As if the judicial system in the US wasn't stacked enough in Sony's favour, why do you think they were pushing so hard for jurisdiction in California? Because they wanted even more favourable terms.
It would have been nice to see the geohot go all the way as a test case for an individual to do what they choose to their own private property, but with as long as this case would have drawn out, I don't think geohot would have had the resources to see it out. There are many examples of corporations just wearing people down dragging them through the legal process - anyone seen Food Inc with Monsanto versus farmers who dared to plant last years crops as this years seeds, or farmers who never used their product but the seed made its way on to their land - will know that this is a well known corporate tactic in the USA. Without the backing of the EFF (and I have to question whether even they have the resoruces to go toe to toe with Sony) geohot was on a hiding to nothing.
I don't think corporations hold as much power in the European court systems (yet) which is probably one of the reasons graf is able to carry on as carefree as he seems to be. As another comparrison, think back to how keen valve were to get Alex Gembe, the Half Life 2 hacker, to set foot in the USA. If his version of events is to be believed, even the German Police Chief said to him "Have you any idea how lucky you are that we got to you before you got on that plane?"

graf_chokolo gets raided AGAIN!
Quote: |
SONY was at my home today again, with a new TRO against me. They took my whole equipment again and told me to stop my OtherOS project or else …. , guys. They definitely do not want OtherOS back on PS3. They want me to take down all my OtherOS and PS3 utils. Make sure to clone all my GIT repositories. I don’t think you want me to stop, guys, do you ? Tell me what you think. |

<Internet Tough Guy>
Just put yourself in his shoes.
You are just a single dude, recently turn age of 21 that is fighting multi-billion international company
Would you want to be in debt for the rest of your life? Case like this would last at least few years..lawyers and all the legal fees would reach millions by end of the case...
It was better for him to move on with his life and settle with Sony. Once Graf_Chokolo finds himself in a lawsuit and in a courtroom, he will quickly settle as well.
You must understand the Sony position, they pay lobbyist to pass laws in favor FOR them.
Unless there is major movements toward DMCA in general, single person will not change anything. This was a step into right direction to make people aware of them problem.
But Governments are so corrupt everywhere, that it makes it nearly impossible to do anything.
And leftovers from his donations will go to eff.org

He was quick enough to take donations from everyone, swan off to South America on a vacation, then come back and mysteriously settle for an undisclosed sum of money from Sony -- and you're defending his actions? No, the dude is a pussy who scammed the shit out of everyone and is now laughing all the way to the bank.

I think you're making a few assumptions there Sabin - I don't recall him being quick to take donations, I think it was a few weeks in when he sought donations to bolster his legal team.
He said his South American trip was preplanned, I have no reason to doubt him - with Intel prize he won a few years ago plus donations for his work on iphone jb, I'm sure he has the resources to do that, a flight to SA isn't expensive, I went to Bogota a couple years back for about $400, and he could have been staying with friends (like he did when he roadtripped across the US).
Finally, no one knows what the terms of the settlement where except Sony, Hotz and their respective attorneys. The settlement isn't public, but do you really think Sony would spend money to sue someone, then spend money settling with that person?
I realise I'm also making assumptions here, but I wouldn't call him a pussy for bottling out of a civil case in the US against a corporate giant - see my earlier post regarding how such things can break and bankrupt regular joes.
Cheers mate.

He also said he would release his OtherOS-enabled 3.21OO fw. Nobody had any reason to doubt him then either. Funny how that turned out.

So you're saying he settled out of the goodness of his heart? He had a sudden attack of conscience and decided that he was "hurting the poor company" and agreed to drop the matter? Or you think Sony, who - as you said - is a multi-billion dollar company who could easily afford to drag him through courts until bankruptcy, magically decided to drop the matter too? Egohot is just one man, Sony have ruined entire COMPANIES... businesses that earned millions have been destroyed by Sony. You're thinking they just gave up on ONE MAN?
It's already common knowledge that they SETTLED, it was just the terms that aren't made public. Either Georgie got himself that job he so coveted, or he walked away from this suit with a ridiculous cheque in his back pocket and a legally binding contract to cease PS3 hacking. To believe otherwise is incredibly naive. So yes, I very well believe that Sony paid him off. And he took it, like the bitch he is, just like all his other showboating, it wouldn't surprise me if this was his plan from the get-go. Instead of refunding the, now defunct and unnecessary, donations he fleeced out of people, he's what? donating to EFF? I don't believe that load of bull any more than I believe Sony just decided to "drop the matter" >_>
.... but that's just me I have a very low trust and belief threshold for mankind - and it's even lower when it comes to people online.

Would you guys recommend any particular external portable hard drive for the PS3? I read reports that some try to mount virtual CD images and won't run on the PS3. Otherwise, I was looking at getting either a WD Passport, LaCie Rikiki, or Seagate GoFlex.

Scores of people have posted on Sony's official message boards that their third party add-ons are no longer working.
When the Blu-ray 3D-friendly firmware update went live earlier this week, Sony explained, "SCEA does not support continued functionality of counterfeit or unlicensed controllers in system software updates and these devices may cease to function in the future because of system software updates.
"SCE and its affiliated companies disclaim all liability for any loss or damage suffered by you or any third party through the use of counterfeit or unlicensed products."
However, there have been a number of complaints that some above-board MadCatz pads and Guitar Hero accessories no longer work either.
We've asked Sony for an explanation and will update when it gets back to us. |
