Mac OS X is now 10 years old. I have been using it for about two and a half years now and I'm very satisfied with it. I think it's faster, easier and prettier than any Windows I have seen to date. Obviously a lot of people think otherwise for a variety of reasons -- which is fine of course. Picking a favourite OS depends on your priorities, taste and personal reasons. I guess my pleasant experiences with OS X have converted me to an Apple lover for the rest of my life.
If only the server version didn't suck balls (the only good part is the filesharing, sigh) or if Apple would at least bother to fix critical bugs when they introduce them into the OS, I would agree on the "easier" part. Prettier is an opinion (I most certainly prefer the looks of Win 7), and faster is just not true
All in all it's a fine OS, but it has flaws just as serious as Windows has always had and I still hate the fact that as a student I can't test a cross platform application without spending hundreds of Euros on a Mac
faster? what you mean faster? in what sense?
after ~5 years i'm moving away from os x, don't like where it's headed, my mac will be soon unsupported and i'm simply bored with it
when i started using it, i had to choose between xp (ancient ui) and linux (not there yet) i choose os x and was happy :)
w7 is nice, but i can not use windows as my main os
moving to linux (still not there yet, but somewhat improved) with tiling window manger - tired of fighting with windows
what i'll miss the most from os x is font rendering

My impression is that it's faster and less clumsy when I just go about my everyday computer business. Also when I close the Macbook: nighty night, it's asleep. The Asus Windows 7 laptop needs more time to go asleep.
And yes Macs aren't well suited for playing games -- that's why I got myself a hacked Xbox of course

@ kumkss: in finder under the "Go" menu there's a "Connect to Server" option (Apple+K). Type in smb://<ip of the Windows machine here> and click connect. It'll most likely ask for a user/pass (I recommend creating one for this purpose), after that it'll show the available shares
Edit: the server itself will appear to the left under "Shared" after doing the above.

i wish it were so easy... a error message appears every time telling me that "most likely" the server is away or is shut down at the present time...
i started now messing around with windows 7 options... and starting to get pissed off with this 90's drama...
Yeah cross-platform filesharing has always been a bit of a hassle
I'm not sure about the other way around. I can only run OS X Server properly in Virtualbox, and that has some extra options I think. If I go to server admin I can turn on Samba (Windows), AFP (OS X) and NFS (UNIX other than OS X, pretty much), and share folders across all 3 if I want to. Perhaps for you under "System Preferences > Sharing" you can turn on Samba/Windows sharing? If you can, I suggest using proper user authentication, guest authentication is always fiddly.

With Win 7 hosts auto-discovery doesn't work most of the time, it works stable only with Win XP hosts. So it's always best to access such hosts via IP or host name.
Also, kumkss, after you solve the connectivity problems you should enable named streams to store Mac OS X meta data in NTFS Alternate Data Streams on SMB shares.
Otherwise, you will have a lot of files with "._" prefix on Windows side. On Mac OS X you won't be able to see them as Finder hides files that have a "." prefix.
