Don't you have stuttering over the cities?

2GB GPU VRAM likely helps me a bit, quad core CPU might have done something but currently even with config tweaks the game doesn't quite utilize such additional cores very effectively, x64 with 4 GB of RAM though the game is 32-bit but might perhaps make use of up to 2 GB though I doubt it'll demand that much.

Flight tests over various areas and conditions and so far the only really demanding area is London itself as somewhat expected seeing the detail and buildings but most other areas sees increased performance, it's not fantastic or anything but instead of starting at around 8 - 10 FPS and going between 15 - 20 during flight it's now between 25 - 30 which I consider a good starting improvement considering I run the game with all options enabled and even a little AA, still more can likely be done but I doubt I can get higher than 40 FPS at most seeing the amount of detail the game presents and over a huge area as well.
(The terrain for example is far more detailed than most other flight games and full of props or what to call it, there's even grass and shadows there along with thousands of trees and buildings depending on where you are flying if you push the settings all rendered at relatively high detail even further above while flying at higher altitude.)

Hope that clarifies things a bit, overall performance is nicely improved but the game is certainly also very demanding and maybe could be optimized even further, very likely in some regards such as CPU utilization and multi-GPU configurations already.

EDIT: Landing ability has improved as has various other mechanics but I'm still not that good even at the arcade like settings and difficulty levels, images turned out well though. Very Happy
(Concentrating more on good images than the flight result likely contributed to this as well plus fiddling with various gauges in the cockpit view.)

(Atleast I "landed" safely, need to use the wheels wheels next time but thankfully the wings took most of the hit at this rather low speed so the collision wasn't that bad.)

(Patch seems to have changed a bit in regards to the optimizations as well but it still looks pretty good considering you aren't really at ground level much of the time, still a lot to learn about the game but at least the flight school instruction no longer yells and threatens with all sorts of things for disobeying orders and flying upside down and stuff.)

My sys is a i5-760 @3,52GHz, 4GB RAM and a SLI of GTX 460 OC 1GB (well, useless since only one is used) on 7 x64.

I don't think that it's a problem of system specs because I have mini freezes also with the lowest graphic settings: less but they are always present.
However the game @1080p, vey high settings and no AA uses less than 1GB of VRAM (~950MB), at least in the training missions.
Since it's unplayable I didn't proceed any futher. Wink

That's way above my specifications (GPU is about on par in regards to performance though.), odd as it should run much better then, stuttering tend to be more problematic than low framerate for me so with that the patch really helped and I haven't noticed any so called freezes either, game streams a lot of data but again your CPU and RAM (i5 so newer MB as well with better RAM management and such.) should clear that without problems.

Hopefully the full patch will improve things as you are far from the only one reporting the patch doing very little, some even see decreased performance and even the game being far less stable as well. Smile
(And hopefully support will continue and not be suddenly dropped for some reason.)

When I tried the patch I played with the task manager opened and I noticed that it uses very low CPU resources: one core was used less than 50%, the other three less than 20% so I think it's true that it's not multi-core optimized... Confused

That's not what I see from what resource monitor shows if I checked the correct values and statistics, CPU0 (Core 1) is used nearly 100% with the rest at under 20% or even lower though I wonder if that's the reason behind the stuttering you experience?
(As a i series CPU is hyper-threading enabled? it should allow more threads and help performance but I've seen many posts wondering about it and even recommending disabling it - bios setting then - to improve overall CPU performance though this is also partly related to overclocking so maybe you've already disabled it.)

EDIT: Perhaps try that post about CPU ini tweak Akwar posted on the previous page?

I tried the tweak posted by akwar at page 8 and now it uses all the 4 cores at ~50% with the result that the mini freezes are highly reduced and it's finally playable.
Thanks!

Patch is out.

EDIT: Readme.txt updated.

DRM
* Solidshield protection was removed from the game. The game no longer requires a
second authentication key. Cliffs of Dover only needs to be authenticated once with a
single key during first install. NOTE: this action is automatic and does not require any
action from the player.

GRAPHICS
* Significantly optimized buildings. Performance gain is less noticeable on above-
recommended specs;
* Removed momentary freezes caused by trees and other vegetation; also changed the
way far-away trees are generated;
* Improved block loading, i.e. the periodic loading of 8x8km terrain blocks as the
player moves about the terrain. Performance gain is most noticeable on
above-recommended specs;
* Expanded the resolution selection in Video Options to include non-native options;
* Streamlined cockpit render. Also made sure that stars and other bright objects no
longer shine through the cockpit at night.

AIRCRAFT
* Removed “rubber bands” from player aircraft that made its movement smoother by
delaying graphical representation of the plane behind its physical position,
with the rare unintended consequence of making tracers appear to fly out sideways;
* Reworked aircraft visual fx and added some new ones, such as new MG131 hit FX;
* Improved performance in FM module by 0,001%;
* Turned on cockpit gauges in the FIAT G.50;
* Fixed fps drop when zooming in on a bomber formation;
* Added a special penalty to aircraft with large parts of wing missing. Though this
is less realistic, this will address most common misconceptions while we work on
even more accurate wing calculations specifically for this scenario;
* Fixed issue when missing control surfaces could still control aircraft;
* Fixed some damage visuals on FIAT G.50;
* Fixed FIAT G.50 visual and control animations;
* Fixed FIAT G.50 receiving too much lift despite wing damage;
* Fixed FIAT BR.20 radiator flaps disappearing in rare cases;
* Fixed Blenheim propellers and turret visuals;
* Fixed some He 115 visuals;
* When a He 115 loses a float, the physical behaviour model will no longer lose a
marble;
* He-115 nose gunner will no longer attempt to hang out of a detached nose section;
* Fixed a visual issue with the Hurricane radiator flap;
* Ju 87 floor window no longer affects the sea;
* Fixed minor visual details in the He-111;
* Damaged Wellingtons will no longer occasionally disappear at a distance;
* Sunderland's top turret will always behave properly when the plane is broken in
half;
* Fixed an issue when engine controls could fail to react to user input for 2
seconds after mission start with Anthropomorphic Control switched to ON;
* Fixed an issue when the Bf 109 on Anthropomorphic Control with Complex Engine
Management would also lock other controls;
* You will now see overspeed FX and damage when expected;
* Bumped up engine radiator drag to more realistic levels;
* Exposed bulkheads left after engine detachent on 2-motors will now produce
significantly more drag;
* Adjusted magnetic compass damping to match the characteristics of a Soviet A-4
compass, as many were unhappy with its present wobbling;
* Fixed minor Bf 109 damage visuals;
* Reduced Bf 109 flaps deployment time to 25 seconds.

MISC
* Redesigned multiplayer client and server GUI;
* Fixed multiplayer server search;
* Added Voice and Music volume control options in Sound Options;
* Made multiple other fixes to the sound engine;
* Cleaned out some stuff being stored in memory, putting less stress on lower-end
machines, especially running DX9;
* Changed bail-out camera sequence for the player;
* Captured AWOL location labels in Full Mission Builder and put them back to work;
* Fixed some erroneous location labels around the map;
* Made numerous changes to localization texts;

WHAT TO EXPECT FOR US IN THE COMING DAYS AND WEEKS:

* SLI and Crossfire support;
* Improved multicore support;
* Additional optimization;
* New multiplayer maps;
* Additional variants of existing aircraft;
* New missions and campaigns!

NOTE ABOUT AERO DESKTOP COMPOSITION:

If you are experiencing an issue with framerate in the game, disabling Aero Desktop
Composition in windows can slightly improve in-game FPS. NOTE that this is an unsupported
feature at this time. If you experience any problems, please reenable Aero again. Aero is
only available in Windows Vista and Windows 7 and is not available in Windows XP.

1. Brose to the main install flder for Cliffs of Dover. By default it is
(Program Files)\Steam\steamapps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover
where (Program Files) is the actual physical location that can vary for your individual
machine.

2. Find a file called Launcher.exe in the folder
(it may simply be Launcher, if you have disabled the display of file extensions in
Windows)

3. Right-click the file and select Properties.

4. Select the Compatibility tab in the window that appears.

5. Check the "Disable desktop composition" checkbox in the Compatiblity tab and press OK.

6. Depending on your system specs, you may see a performance increase when flying the
game.

LOL, after only 8 days since game release they already removed the protection, so basically they wasted money on it. Laughing

I would assume the protection was mostly a remnant from the Russian release early last month or how it was to avoid 0-day piracy by some unknown anonymous user or such, not needed now so it was removed after the initial sales week, already has Steam itself after all.
(Though FLT recently released the 1.1 patch, saving me time to upload those files and also being fully working I guess, haha.)

The russian version is (maybe was after this update?!) protected by Starforce instead of SolidShield.
