I guess this is not technically a 'games' problem, so sorry if this is not the right place to post this.
Anyway, since yesterday, i have been unable to mount a dvd drive using daemon tools or in fact any disc emulator.
Daemon, for example, installs fine, and even mounts the drive to an appropriate drive letter, but when I mount an image, any image, the drive either disappears completely, or informs me that the drive is not accessible.
Has anyone else ever experienced anything similar ? Like I said this is a general drive emulation error, i have tried various other tools like virtualclonedrive wincdemu etc and they all respond in exactly the same way.
I am on w7 x64, an i7 2630QM with 8gb ram, if that helps
any insight would be appreciated

ive tried with and without SPTD, and updating it.
other emulators dont use sptd, so I dont think thats the problem. But I will try again just to make sure. Any other ideas?
EDIT //
still not working. also I forgot to mention that when I make a virtual drive , it appears as a BD-ROM like normal, but when I mount an image, the drive changes to a CD-ROM and then drive disappears, although I can still see it if i go to My Computer but, as i said its 'inaccessible'

When you uninstalled daemon tools and tried something else did you also run the SPTD install program which would give you the option to uninstall? daemon tools uninstaller doesn't remove it..
If that doesn't help do a trojan/rootkit scan.. ATAPI driver is a favorite for that kinda shit..
Check your event log for errors that match the date/time when you try to mount and access
