To get playable framerate i had to lower shadow settings to medium(arghh Wink ) and now game is playable(30+fps). Good thing is that the ~35 fps feels pretty smooth in this game-to me atleast. I'm not even sure if my 5850 is the problem here cause the game seems pretty cpu demanding- its using like 90% of my two cores all the time.

ps. that fat guy is pretty annoying just like that idiot in dirt 2.
ps2. animantions problem here too- hands not moving on the wheel.

For those who have problems with stationary hands, try quitting your current race and then start the race again. That solves it for me. Smile

First ingame settings select No AA.
Then make a profile for the game in nv inspector. Goggle for the utility if you don`t have it.
In antialiasing compatibility put 0x000010C1
In antialiasing mode use Override any application setting
In aa settings use 2x or more multisampling AA.
In trasparency AA use 2x Sparse Grid Supersampling or more

Actually looks like shit. Blurry, like a gaussian filter using depth-of-field values or something. Look at the left side road on the corner in the last jpg.

Played a bit, runs 30 fps + with 3d vision on (tho no working properly), and without 45fps+ on highest settings. Smooth enough, but still not acceptable since the game looks like crap Sad Game feels good tho.

Reduce speed sensitivity, increase steering sensitivity. Fiddle with them until your controller responds the way you want it to.

Same goes for all you complaining about input lag, fiddle with the fucking settings. Shame Frant didn't even bother with that, because it is all fixable. Have any of you ever even played rFactor, LFS or RBR for example? None of them are fine when you start them up, each and every one needs some pretty serious tweaking on the input.

Game with a g25 wheel feels real good. A bit too easy on the hardest mode.

FFB could be better

@ shadak: Force Feedback does seem to be pretty bad gathering from what I've read everywhere, but unfortunately I don't have a wheel anymore (planning to get one again some time soon though) so I can't fiddle around with that.

Obviously LFS and rFactor are both better true sims, but that's not what they were aiming for anyway. At any rate, it looks, handles and sounds a lot better than the "real driving simulator" on the PS3 Razz
Compared to Forza, I'd say this looks a bit better, they both sound good, but both are too forgiving on some aspects to be called a real sim. With the GT-R in this game (at least, the one you play in the first two races, dunno about how it's set up) I found it quite hard to induce oversteer by power alone. Perhaps that's because of how that car was set up, but I'll find out soon enough.

Get the fuck out of this thread already you two, go play GT5 or something.

@ garus: yes I do, although I've not even spent an hour with the game yet. Waiting for my legit version to unlock, should be tomorrow Smile
General consensus (and I agree with most of it) among quite a few decent sim players:
- Controls need heavy tweaking, default settings are pretty darn terrible. That said, turning damping off alone already changes it a lot (for the better), but after tweaking regular and speed sensitivity (mostly the latter, needs to go WAY down), it's perfectly responsive.
- Force Feedback sucks. Period. After some tweaking it gets better, but it's no LFS for example.
- Vanilla handling is lightyears ahead of vanilla Shift 1 after you tweak your controls. What little there is left to fix will be fixed by a mod soon enough.
- Graphically it lacks a solid AA method, and some textures are slightly lower quality than before. The game still looks better than Forza 3 though.
- Sounds are good once again, you can actually hear bad clutching as well <3

That said, despite the default control issues, that's not new for anyone who has played any real sim (and I'm sorry, but GT5 is the least of the 3 "major" production titles - by far). I can't comment on how Forza 3's controls are by default, but that game is a bit more forgiving anyway. Compared to LFS, rFactor or RBR (all of which I have, sadly I've never bothered getting iRacing), I'd say this requires a bit more tweaking. Not much, but it does a little bit, mostly because the relation between some settings is a bit weird. In fact, it's about on par with RBR, that game also requires a shitload of tweaking before it feels right.

Anyone else have the graphical problem where the track textures get a lot brighter or darker depending on the direction your car is facing? Sometimes restarting the game fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. I'll have to check whether it only happens after changing graphics settings but not restarting the game.

Seems that for those with a Logitech wheel there's a foolproof fix to the FFB problem: use the profiler and uncheck the "Allow game to adjust FFB" setting. Apparently that entirely fixes it Smile

Well I have to say, loving this game so far. Took some time to get used to the handling model with my Thrustmaster FFB Pro, but having raced in a BMW M3, Skyline GTR and the Lotus Exige, I'm very impressed. I have found that the wheel feels a TON better if you set the auto-centre to the wheel, rather than the game. The car pulls itself straight on corners now, as it should be.

I also think the graphics are superb, running at 1080 with AAx2 and AFx4. No problems here at all, and I think Spa is the best looking version in any racing game I've played to date.

I have to point out as well that this game has taken a lot of shit from people who are against derpism, and constantly use that fucking pear idiot, but yet cannot be bothered to set the game up, or spend some time playing with the settings. This makes me chuckle, because these same people are the ones shouting loudest about 'dumbing down' yet apparently are terrified when confronted with any other option screen apart from graphics settings.

*Sigh* I love you internet but damn, you try my patience.

Uninstalled after about 20 career races, as my copy should be here in a couple of days. See you on the track guys, I look forward to destroying your times
