Raven Shield was the last real tactical R6-game. I think the new games are fun, but they're not a tactical shooter at all, more of a actiongame.

Great!  Modders are absolutely one of the reasons that make PC the best platform ever 
And this mod in particual looks neat. Games like Raven Shield are so good and rewarding if compared to the games coming from this actual generation..

GRAW on console and PC were two completely different beats as I recall. You sure you meant GRAW? I read that a lot of people thought it was too damn hard. Yep, GRAW on console was a 3rd person "not-so-tactical" shooter while on PC it was a tactical FPS (developed by GRIN). It wasn't a bad game, but there were some issues with the enemy's AI as well as an unresponsive friendly AI; it had potential thought, too bad that the sequel was a "more of the same" instead of an improved one.. |

Gotta agree there.Was very pissed when they turned the Rainbow six series into a mindless pile of FPS shit by removing the planning phase and other great features.

I played Raven Shield a lot too. MP5-10mm was my prefered poison. shadow_D is indeed correct. Raven Shield was the last proper R6 game.
I think it goes like this: Ubi-soft starts out with a vision to make a realistic R6 game again. They start out and along the way they sacrifice more and more realism because some executive is afraid the current state isn't appealing to a wide enough audience. The end product is something Ubi soft hype up to be their most advanced and realistic shooter to date. Something probably most of their customers buy although the old-skoolers knows better. The average gamer doesn't know better. He has never tried a game that wasn't hand crafted to appeal to everyone, instead of developers just doing what they want to make a game they would want to play themselves. That's what's missing today. Too many cooks with an opinion.

Everything went to hell when publishers got involved in the design of games and not sticking to what they are supposed to do,publishing and that's it.Now they strong arm the developers and make changes as they see fit which results in a worthless pile of crap.

I doubt we will ever see tactical shooters of the sort of R6 and SWAT3. We did see SWAT4 and I liked it, however most of todays gamers thought it was too slow and to hard so it didn't sell very well. Haven't heard anything about a new SWAT after that.
Even if the idea is there to make a tactical shooter and return to the roots I think it will choke along the way and we'll still see yet another action game with a few tactical options.

don't think it's out yet, but the game is brilliant just on itself already
there's a bazillion custom maps to play in multiplayer/terrorist hunt/lone wolf
will certainly give it another play once the mod is out tho

As the updated title indicates Ubisoft never tried to stop the mod's production.
