Template copy/pastaed from Neon.

So, to the thoughts of the game... I expect that it's not going to be ready 2011/april as they've no screenshots available, no info in the 'pre-order now' no forums, no nothing at all. But... would be a cool game if it's coming.

EDIT:

And their earlier forum is infested with spambots... With a bit of googling I found that the game is still supposed to come in april:

Oh, I liked it. I recall it's still the best commercial ufo clone so far.

or was there some other ufo games coming out around the same time as this (ufo ET 1)?

I was under the impression that the "After-" series was pretty shit. Is Afterlight worth a play?

It could be. But then, Afterlight is exception, in good way.

UFO: Aftermath and UFO: Afterlight were quite good with the later better. UFO: Extraterrestrials GOLD (modded) was fun but the graphics were fugly.
There always Xenonauts to wait for. But more and more news from their site is published the less I'm anticipating it (especially after they admitted that most of the news and info was overhyped).

I have high hopes for this one, since Bman will participate in the development of UFO 2: Extraterrestrials. He saved the first one with his awesome mod.

Xenonauts also seens to be a very promising X-COM clone.

First one was pretty decent tbh. At least it stayed fairly true to the original compared to some other clones.

Please? Very Happy The UFO games were notoriously buggy, so if it's better with mods, I'd love to try it out again.

The release date banner has changed on the homepage Smile

It now says "September 2011". Also there's 1 screenshot... but I can't recall if it was there before already.

The aliens looks damn lame... some robot kind of thingamajigs.

I remember trying the first game and not enjoying the experience at all. Accurate it may have been to the original, but it just looked ugly to me and lacked any charm of similar games I thought. After I played for a few minutes I uninstalled and felt like playing the original x-com games or one of the UFO: after* ones. This sequel looks ugly too unfortunately :/

Chaos Concept Studios announced the release date of UFO 2: Extraterrestrials: Shadows Over Earth has been delayed until March 2012.

The developers wish to spend more time improving the design of the global gameplay as well as the tactical combat and to add new features based on fan feedback.

Some of the new features related to this delay include:

- Alien mobile fortresses which the player must battle on both the globe and in tactical combat.

- New player-controlled aircraft, including several types of helicopters. Different aircraft will have different combat capabilities forcing the player to use the right craft for the right job.

- More varied alien abilities in tactical combat to keep the players on their toes. For example, the Magetra have the unique ability to consume dead aliens and humans to heal and energize themselves during combat.

- More varied tactical combat mission types.

Delaying the game to add more features? This will either end up a buggy mess, or the best UFO clone ever made. If they do this right, and also manage to recreate the excellent atmosphere the original UFO games had, this could actually end up surpassing them. Judging strictly by what they're promising, of course.

So the ripoff gets a sequel.. Could not care less really, unless they finally get some original ideas and a gameplay that warrants playing this one over the original games.

Technically, UFO Aftermath was trying to be the clone, but it was a medicore game at best. Still several categories better than UFO:ET. Luckily enough, the devs realized, that there is life beyond trying to copy the XCOM games, and instead of trying to be a clone or successor, they built their own style.

UFO Aftershock was a decent game, but still lacked in some aspects. Nonetheless I played that a lot. It basically has nothing to do with the XCOM series anymore apart from also revolving around an alien invasion.

UFO Afterlight is an absolute masterpiece and definitely the best game in the trilogy. Add a few mods that enhance equipment and research and you will have hundreds of hours of entertainment.

UFO:ET on the other hand is a shady ripoff with zero creativity and basically a near 1:1 copy of the mechanics of the original XCOM: Ufo Defense. They only changed it in a slight way to prevent a lawsuit.

I liked the first 2 games. Then they went to this cartoon style graphics, don't know why they went with that.It really ruined it.I would prefer the UFO Aftermath style graphics.

It still wasn't Xcom and I wish we would see a true Xcom sequel some day.
