Is the game actually any good?

I saw a trailer on television the other day - it looked like the last Splinter Cell - basically updated.

Seems like a lot of fuss over nothing.

I used rmps too. No worky. Might be the release I had. I used memorex DVD's at the lowest speed I could get Alcohol to run at.

Try reading one of the many reviews online. They all explain the differences between chaos theory and the other splinter cells.

There are many dynamics that make the game much better, but really you need to play it to feel them yourself. The demo really doesn't do it justice at all. Actually, it's the shortest and most linear mission in the whole game, but I suppose thats because it's the first mission. I've played both the previous splinter cells and I can say that while I thought they were pretty good, this latest one is fantastic. The graphics are superb, so are the animations etc. But really it's how open and realistic the missions seem that brings it above the previous games. There are so many options throughout the game, it's just great. The AI is also some of the best i've seen, very convincing.

But one thing you have to do is make sure your brightness setting is correct, and also turn on hardware shadow mapping.

There is one, unfortunately at the moment you have to buy it. I'll rather wait.

Here is ...how well to put it ehmm.. an explanation lol

Quote:
...the reason the AI doesn't see Fisher's goggles: The devs when making the first SC wanted some kind of "trademark" for the gamer to recognize Sam Fisher (similar to the bat signal or the red S on Superman's chest) ... whenever you see 3 green triangular dots, you think ... ahhh Splinter Cell. It also worked out to be sort of an "indicator" for the player, especially when you're in a pitch black area. You're able to see where Sam is exactly with the green lights on his goggles as well as his back. Think of his goggles in the same way as the health bar, light meter, etc ... it's there for the player to see, not the AI in the game.

Me still laughing Razz

Here is another one
Quote:
Those poor terrorists must have also gone deaf firing their weapons, because they never seem to notice the conversations you have with their buddies in the dark alcove. Then again they do here you slowly walking over solid ground during a thunder storm...

Keeps laughing Very Happy

Nah it's just a gameplay mechanic, like the light on his back too. Without those indicators you wouldn't know where you were in a pitch black area without the night vision goggles, which sometimes are useless when there is a lightsource nearby. Just like the interrogations, it's a gamepay concession.

I mean, if you wanted to get really pedantic you could pick any game apart, but who cares about things like that when they enhance the gameplay.

i discovered the reason why this release isn't working for many people. first of all dvd device must be recognized as USB 2.0 only NOT USB 1.1

1) remove starforce drivers (not sure this is required but better safe than sorry)
2) burn pizzhut release with RMPS emulation
3) activate RMPS emulation in Alcohol 120 options
4) reboot may be needed
5) physically unplug any IDE cd/dvd devices
6) delete the following registry key if it exists: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubisoft\Splinter Cell Chaos Theory\Keys
7) run scct and enter the proper activation code

proper: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-7JMAW

in the nfo is the cd-key as: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-7JMAW7

that serial provided only works with an US dvd, which differs from the EMEA dvd and such require different set of activation codes.

if you can't or won't unplug IDE cd/dvd devices i've read that you can use StarForce Nightmare 1.12 and disable 'IDE channel 2'. unconfirmed though.

Thanks a lot. I can now conform a WORKING Splintercell Chaos Theory.

You do need a USB drive and you CAN use Starforce Nightmare 1.12 to get this release working. You do NOT have to remove any IDE cables and you don't have to remove any starforce drivers. I'm gonna play the game now Smile

There might be a way to burn it to DVDR, without the use of an external USB drive :

http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=69711&page=3&pp=15

Thread was closed unfortunately, but that's interesting anyway,
so if someone has a few DVDR left...

You need USB2 DVD drive... You can probably unhook your disk drive from the external rack and plug your DVD in and then play..

what was that last bit you said? it didn't make sense... it sounded like you were saying to plug your harddrive into your cd rom slot . if that's what you said then you should know that the 'slot' has nothing to do with it.... it's just a secondary drive bus.

is there a way to maybe emulate an external usb2.0 dvd drive?

You said you have external USB hard drive, well you can unhook your hard drive from it and plug your DVD instead so you have external USB DVD drive... Hope it's clear now.. Smile
