And therein lies one of the great problems of the modern games industry. I'm just as big a fan of slicing people in half, shooting them in the face, or setting them on fire and pushing them out a window as the next man, but there is plenty of room for non-combat solutions and scenarios in games, especially RPGs.

Hmmm I'm sure I've evaded combat more than once through diplomacy.. anyway, I heard in Deus Ex 3 we'll be able to talk our way out of all combat situations except for boss battles. Colour me intrigued.
1 and 2 are still amazing.

Wow, fun times. Except I remember in an interview the DE3 project head or someone was asked why we couldn't talk our way out of boss battles. Turns out they didn't have enough time. And they've delayed it 3-4 times already
1 and 2 are still amazing.

Soo you see 2 bouncers guarding a door. Shoot and kill the 1-st, then use your Social Enhancer Aug to talk your way and apologize to the 2-nd bouncer.

still havent install the game yet. friendly fire can ever be OFF?! i thought it was always on in da:o.. i mean i set my people on fire often enough... for giggles mainly, of course but having to pick when i use massive aoes, or positioning my guys and waiting for the right time to use freeze spells n shit... and my personal fave, leaching health from my party members..
i thought ff was the whole part of the tactics of the game... wow a lots changed...

I think in the console versions of Origins, FF was only active in Hard and Nightmare. In the PC version it was active in Normal as well.

Actually, I think FF was completely turned off on the console version no matter what difficulty, due to the lack of isometric view.

It's their way of equalizing the enemy count on consoles.

I just killed the High Dragon on nightmare, and it broke my game ... how? I got the epic fucking bow off her, and now Sebastian kills people in two-three shots, doing easy 1.2 damage non-combo crits - and I have a huge crit chance.
In fact, most my characters are crit based, I run with Fenris, Sebastian and Isabella I'm a mage. And my mage is almost useless, you just can't get the damage out of them, like you can with others. The game is boring and dull, all I have to do is clump the enemies up, and then start critting them. Fenris, when buffed, does an easy 2.4 - 2.5 K damage crits, Isabella takes care of any and all casters under 2 seconds ... etc. And this is just the beginning of chapter 3.
I am certain now, that mages on higher difficulties are gimped. The only good damage they can do is through cross class combos (even then only with lightning and blood magic or walking bomb), and even then it's just a small burst, while the other classes have sustained high DPS.
Who the fuck playtested this game?
DA2's gameplay is simply a bore. Not enough abilities, not enough good abilities, too long cooldowns (in relation to combat), makes ability-based DPS builds useless, you need high sustained DPS, which is not ability based. Zero choice in how you build your characters - there most certainly IS an alpha way of building all your companions. Zero choice in combat as well. Braindead!
All in all a complete mess, that should never have left the drawing board.

A question to those who played through the game:
SPOILER-WARNING
Spoiler: |
Does Anders destroy the church when you didn't helped him too?
|
I finished the game in 41 hours. DA2 is not so great and epic like Origins was but at least a nice spinoff. Dragon Age: The Legend of Hawk would be a better title instead of DA2 for this game.
It was fun to see what happened to those chars from Origins (I recruted them all excl. Loghain). I played with my imported savestage from Witch Hunt 1.1. So I have same questions what would be when...
SPOILER-WARNING
Spoiler: |
1. Does Zevran appear in DA2 when you killed him in DAO and import that savegame.
2. When the Warden sacrificed himself in DAO and Liliana killed herself because she couldn't live without him, does she appear in DA2? She is in Sebastians story and in the outro but it would make more sense if she wouldn't appear when she is actually dead.

Spoiler: | Yeah, he always destroy the chantry no matter what you do
About 1 and 2 I'm not really sure, but for example if Anders dies in Awakening and you import that savegame, he's still alive in DA2, so I'd assume they all appear anyway |

Guys...are you running the game on medium or high?
It seems that the games uber graphics is to much for my 5770. Turning anything above Medium makes the frame-rate plummet. Only problem is it looks like shit compared to origins although the isometric view probably helped.
From what I understand DX11 is the culprit but higher graphics settings require this renderer. Truly amazing what they did with the graphics. I hope a patch or a newer driver will improve this shit.
