I tried to get into Yakuza 3 but it seemed to be hours telling a back-story and I couldn't attach myself to it at all. Just cut-scene after cut-scene after cut-scene. A shame because I believe it's a very good game.
So is it worth going back to Y3 and sit out the cut-scenes or jump straight into Y4?

Well Y3 had a story digest of the previous games, so I see no reason to assume Y4 won't have the same. You could, if you really wanted to, ignore Y3 and just go on with Y4 ... but why? It's a Shenmue-like game (Sega, remember?) so it's primarily a story-based beat'em'up. If you don't LIKE story-based beat'em'ups, you won't like Y4 any more than you liked Y3.

I loved Shenmue but it seemed like I had to watch an hour of intro before I could get into the gameplay of Y3 so I didn't really even get into the game properly. I'd only rented the game so I sent it back then.
Might have to acquire it over the weekend and sit through it, cheers Sabin.

^^ You just need to be patient with this kind of games. It's like the Asian cinema.Love it or hate it.Yakuza 4 is better that Yakuza 3.It is identical to the japanese only release (only one song is replaced i think and a tv show). All the mini games are there.Hostess clubs are included too this time.

thank god they didnt use subpar english voices, the japanese ones are fantastic.
The yakuza series has always been really japanese in heart and not easily "gettable" for western players, imho. Lots of japanese culture. I really like the narrative style. But i think you have to be a japanophile to fully enjoy its quirks.

Anyone playing this?
If so, I've got a side quest to go meet someone at Childs Park.
Where is it?
Not showing on my map and I've found zero way to put a marker on the map for anything other than the main story.

Well Yakuza 4 has been out for over a week now, and PS3 games are region free, so it won't really matter which one you get; EUR or US.

Essentially it just means subtitles and menu's english. The voices aren't (imo, the game wouldn't be the same anyhow without the japanese audio)
