So its 2011 and finally the virtual network provider who offers affordable 3G ( HSDPA ) with EDGE available where ever 3G isnt is going to make it available where i live.
Im going for android phone, but not completely sure what phone, HTC and co are too expensive for me, and too big.
http://www.amazon.de/Acer-XP-H52EN-004-Liquid-Silber-Platte/dp/B004DIG0RW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1298913865&sr=8-1
Found this one, 330 euros, has android 2.2, 480*800 res, 800mhz cpu , 512/512 rom/ram.
Only thing i worry about is the support from Acer, previous liquid phones are stick on android 2.1 and need custom OS downloaded to upgrade.
Also about software... i noticed mobilism is a popular site, i plan to downloaded newest navigon + maps, but besides that i honestly dont know what cool software/games to get, i assume google earth on android without having pro edition allows to use the GPS along with it. Also looking for pidgin or simular IM program.
Before i ask a ton of questions, maybe give me the rundown of what to look for
thanks

If you plan to use navigation go for a device with a lot of internal memory (samsung devices) or see if you can get an at least android 2.2 device and a navigation software that is capable of running from SD card.
My father has one of the first android devices (Samsung Galaxy I7500) and it has 8GB internal storage and android 1.6 and thus he was able to install igo with cards on the internal ram.
If you are just looking for a cheap android phone and you are in germany, why not go for the eplus lutea. It is the (somewhat minimal better) Orange San Francisco/ZTE Blade for the german market. At around ~100€ you get an android smartphone with capacitive display (multitouch), 480x800, 600mhz processor, android 2.1 ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZTE_Blade
here take a look. And it is pretty solid, the reviews say it's as good/better than the usual 200 euro android smartphones.
Either this or wait for one of the to be released dual core android monsters (preferably with tegra 2 platform I'd say). I don't see any reason to go for a "standard" 1Ghz android device anymore You'll have the good games on the dual core androids and the cheap ones will work on the 600mhz device too (angry birds etc).

im stuck in a technology wasteland called belgium, wish germany would occupy this country again so i could have 10 euro flatrate for UMTS and actually have good coverage in every city.
anyhow , the acer being 512/512 ram/rom , 800mhz cpu , android 2.2 and allowing 32gb on the SD card it would fit perfectly for the navigon software? its probably the most demanding software i would run since i would use it to run meebo / browsing besides that, ill still be an avid PC user for everything else.

Don't worry about ROMs, most devices are featured on A
That Acer phone seems to have good specs; besides ROM updates the only support you need to worry about are RMAs, since Android doesn't need any other software to be used. The good navigation apps also allow you to store maps on your SD card, so don't worry about that either (iGO, CoPilot do, and TomTom will as well once it's out). I personally use CoPilot, does the job just fine for me.
Not sure about Belgium, but here in NL you can get a Desire and similar phones for free with a €12,50-€15,00 subscription now (as opposed to the €30 from a year ago); you'll want a subscription for your data anyway, and I doubt it'll be much cheaper than that over there

expecting the phone next week.
Any suggestions for IM app? meebo seems to be outdated, and there are a couple others of interesting apps with high ratings but then you got a bunch of people giving it 1 star for whatever reason so its diffuclt to pick one with the amount of idiots out there giving ratings.
