You can't use texmod with the exe in the retail version as you have to start the game from the launcher due to the copy protection they included.

| Quote: | | It's amazing to view, but there is one downside. Detective Mode is not only back, but it appears far more crucial this time around. In the span of 20 minutes, there must have been a half-dozen occasions where Detective Mode wasn't just helpful but necessary. Hidden Riddler clues, tucked away criminal, armed guards and so on. I'm really excited for a fully powered Batman to take on an entire city's worth of criminals, but not if I am watching the world through x-ray goggles most of the time. |
Again? Oh well..

| Quote: | | Surprisingly, Arleen Sorkin did not provide the voice for Harley Quinn in the demo we saw, despite being in Arkham Asylum. When pressed, we were given a stone cold "no comment" on whether this would be true in the final game. The actress we heard was a pretty good imitation, but obviously not the real thing. |
| Quote: | | In Arkham Asylum, Batman was in constant radio contact with The Oracle, who was able to monitor his situation and provide remote help. In the demo we saw of Arkham City, this role was being fulfilled by Batman's faithful butler, Alfred. |
| Quote: | | Arkham Asylum's brawls maxed out at 12 bad guys. In Arkham City, we're told that the number will be at least 25, possibly even 26. That's a lot of dudes. |

Playing with it on like.. 70% of the time and ruining the visuals is definitely a downside.

Well barely might be a bit of an understatement, but I did not use it even 30% of the time. I only used it when needing to know where to go and to see where enemies were once in a while.

You couldn't play like that if you wanted to discover everything so yeah, I used it most of the time. As consolitis says, it's a downside in a matter of speaking because it destroys all the visuals of the game, but I wouldn't like to see the detective mode out of the game either.

Yeah I played pretty much the whole original game in detective mode. Which, as people have pointed out, kind of takes away from all the normal mapped-to-hell Unreal eye candy. I'm not a graphics whore though, so it didn't worry me at all.

The secrets were hardly impossible to anticipate. I only used detective mode when it was necessary. 70%? More like 10-20% for me. I thought it was a neat addition.

I also spend a lot of time in detective mode (I think more than half). Even when it wasn't necessary and I could turn it off, I knew I was going to need it soon, so I often didn't bother.

Same for me. While not beautiful, the game looked much nicer outside of detective mode.

+1
Exactly, it was more an addition for me than a vital feature

| Quote: | At a talk at the Brighton, UK-based Develop conference, Batman: Arkham Asylum art director David Hego said he had regrets about the powerful "detective vision" mode in Rocksteady Studios' top-rated game.
Hego joked that when he would hear about people playing through the game entirely in the brightly coloured, X-ray-like mode, he would "want to cry a little bit." The Detective Vision mode, which gave the player a major advantage but obscured the game's painstakingly unique art direction, was "very powerful," but in keeping with Batman's high-technology arsenal, said Hego.
"It was a gameplay decision to make detective vision so strong…we're going to try not to do that mistake again." Hego added that Rocksteady would "make it more like augmented reality next time," shedding some light on how detective vision might be toned down and adapted for the studio's next Batman game. |

Used it maybe 15-20% max, basically when it was needed.

Well for my first playthrough I used it for about 20% of the time..maybe less (only when needed)...then I wanted to discover all secrets for my second playthrough and I used it more.I didn't wanted to ruin game in my first play with this , simple as that ... Im more interested in core gameplay than extra stuff , that always comes for me in second place.

I constantly played in detective mode thru all the game, turning it off only in mass brawls. I hated it

| Quote: | Batman: Arkham City has been shown off at a recent US press event, revealing a bunch of new gameplay details in the process.
It's been confirmed that Calendar Man will feature in the game with script cues that will be activated according to the time in real life. More specifically, if you visit the criminal at his cell during any real-life holiday, he'll have a natter with you about the crimes he performed on that day.
He was apparently mumbling on about St. Patrick's Day during the press demo, which is coming up soon.
Batman won't be ripping people out of cars, GTA style, and having to run/swing around everywhere could get tiresome, you might worry. Well it seems Batman will be able to make use of helicopters for transport.
Apparently, during the demo the Bat seized the opportunity to grapple onto a low-hovering chopper, which proceeded to fly around town as the player scoped out the streets below for innocents that need saving or Riddler trophies. Sounds awesome.
As you wonder around town you'll occasionally receive "Person in Distress" messages. Accepting the distress call will send you on a new side-mission objective.
And finally developer Rocksteady is apparently saving a surprise for the GDC event in San Francisco next week. According to 1UP, attendees were shown "a hand-painted billboard in the game that provided a clue," which read: "Turn on and tune in before someone checks out: 275.00 325.00." |
Very interesting..
