I might be wrong but Piranha Bytes is pretty independent from big Publishers (EA f.e.), so they kind of do their own stuff, the way they want to. Also they are pretty close to the Gothic/Risen Community who they are not gonna disappoint.
Risen II will most certainly be a proper Piranha Bytes RPG à la Gothic I-II (not s much III, which was their Hybris)/Risen.

By the way, putting all this into perspective and why we were that surprised: The game sold more copies over the last 4 days than since its release in October 2009 in total(over almost one year) on Steam! It's like earning a year's salary in 4 days and that is truly something no one anticipated from our side. |
I wish they said how many that were.
Also, in the past year, they have been recruiting, which is normally a good sign.

It sold very poorly, way worse than GIII and even Risen ( ok, Risen is great but had poor marketing and was a new franchise and still sold something around 1 mil )

risen sold poorly cuz there was 0 marketing, and im happy if they finally got some sales from steam, i just hope we will have standalone client for risen2, for patching purposes instead of pure steam client now that they saw how " awesome " steam is

I really don't understand why these clowns decided to make a expansion for this game, but i'm sure the one who said it's perhaps cut from the original game is right. What do the possibly hope to achieve? Arcania afaik is a pretty hated game amongst the Gothic fans, not sure about console derps. I bet this is one of the reasons Jowood and Piranha bytes disbanded because Jowood tried steering them in a derpfest direction aswell as pushing release of G3.

You're right, seems as they're teasing us..anyway the mod contains tons of gameplay fixes (along with the usual visual overhaul), so this is probably the reason why it is taking so long. Well, I can wait, it's not a problem for me  |

Umm no, members of the CPT were responsible for the extended edition of the original Gothic 3. Which along with Quest pack and content mod made the game closer to it's predecessors.
What I'm really waiting for is CSP - Community Story Project. Chapters, guilds, real journal entries, tons of new dialogues and quests and so on.

True, it seems that they have decided to create it in 5 minutes randomly copy-pasting some gameplay sequencies with Windows Movie Maker

Just hope they actaculy make a game with a beginning, a middle and an end. The gothic games and then Risen had horrible pacing and a severe lack of content later on.

Honestly, I'm glad for this. Arcania was a disgusting excuse for a Gothic title. The sooner this is dead and buried, the better.
