|
 |
Last thing I played was the Crysis 2 leak. The next day I got my new 5.1 system and I thought "aww, come on, why don't you rearrange your furnitures, so you can get the real 5.1 feeling" (not for crysis 2, but for everything else)....
I was busy to move my table and other stuff untill my mate tried to remove a power plug from my wall and "BAAAAAAANG!" - lights went off. I had to turn the power back on at the fuse box. Well, my pc won't boot anymore. I don't know what the fuck he did...but I guess my pc is fried.
Everytime I turn it on, it runs for 1 sec. but it shuts off immediately. nothing happens after that. Even when I push 40 x on the power-button... I have to wait for about 5 min. untill I can boot it again for 1 sec. but it shuts off immediately.
Well, now I'm using a notebook for a while. Only untill I can get new hardware.
ffs, that sucks.
I need to find out which parts I need to replace...

Why don't you open up the chassis and remove and plug the memory back in (switch the places of the modules)? I've had a similar issue with a friend's machine and this was the only thing that helped to power the computer back on.
Is there the particular smell of something burnt or fried?

yep, I did a cmos reset. It didn't help.

yea, I tried to boot with only 1 ram module but I didn't try to switch them... I should try that.
The power supply kinda smells burnt but ...and it kinda doesn't sell like burnt...not sure, smells strange, that's sure....so I'm guessing it's something else...maybe the mainboard is fucked up.
Ah, I'll try what you guys told me to. I'll report back later. thanks!

I plugged the power supply back in th pc and wanted to try it again with various settings but nothing happens now. It's completely dead. I'm taking the power supply to a friend tomorrow and I will try it on his pc.

It'll be the PSU. Hopefully, just that though - like said, remove *EVERYTHING* that's not needed to boot the PC and use your friend's PSU to test your PC. If you had a half-decent PSU it should've blown fast enough for it not to damage your motherboard, but better safe than sorry

What sort of PSU is it, age could also be of interest, newer ones are a bit more protected from damaging the rest of the system such as having fuses, shielding and similar to avoid a surge or what it's called (As that can kill the MB and the other components at worst case.)
Also even though I saw fuse and such you normally can't open PSU's just like that and would have to have it replaced, newer PSU's also have ways to test them via a sort of dummy plug to see if they power on and function though I guess it depends on the model.
All in all what I'm saying is that it might just be the PSU that's damaged and needs replacing and the rest of the system will be fine.
(Minus whatever you worked on that didn't save when the system was shut off, booting into safe mode first might be helpful.)

Alright guys, went to a local computer store instead. They tried everything with me together. It's the mainboard, which is fried.....FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.
They don't sell 775 boards anymore, I have to get a new mainboard, cpu and ram...ffs.
I had a Gigabyte EP45 DS3, an Intel Q9400 and mushkin ram (4gb).... I have no clue about the new mainboards & CPUs... I need to read some tests =/ ...gah~

thanks guys. I'm still thinking about upgrading while I have the chance... mmh. maybe I'll stick to AMD, they have cheaper CPUs and mainboards and my ddr2 ram could fit on those...
I have to think about this... It's a hard decision for me, cus I was a Intel fanboi xD.

Just had a quick look for you on the second hand section of Tweakers.net, plenty of good P45 and X48 motherboards on there. They've got a nice reputation system, apart from the fact that the average user is not a complete retard, so it's pretty safe to buy from one of them. Purchased two 775 boards myself for two separate PC's myself in the last year and both boards are still in working order last I heard.
Finding a new one is nearly impossible, at least with P45 or X48 chipset. Just lemme know if you need any help
And for a new system: a P55 system doesn't have to set you back that much, a system similar to mine should set you back around €350-ish. Just don't bother with 1366, absolutely no need for that.

Not DDR3-2133 at least, should be 1333 or *maybe* 1600 for overclocking, definitely not 2133
i'd just get some 1333 chips; about €70 at most for 4GB. The Corsair Dominators or G.Skill sit around 50, GEIL and a few others get up to about 70. I run my 760 at 4.4 GHz with 1333 memory so

Alright, it's decided. I'm getting a sandy bridge. the failure rate is at chance of 5% ...I mean come on...I can't have that much of bad luck. I'm sure nothing bad will happen ;X...
getting this stuff:
CPU: INTEL Core i7 2600K 4x3.4GHz boxed
Board: GIGABYTE GA-PH67A-UD3 - H67 / DDR3 / So.1155
RAM: 8GB CORSAIR CL9 Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 KIT
It would cost me about 500, but my friend works for a big hardware company in germany and he can get me that stuff for 450 €.
thanks again guys.
Now I need to sell my Q9400, which I bought about 4 months ago >.<...
