Seems like we have pretty much the same opinions about the franchise chiv. Seems most don't understand that it's not supposed to be like every damn RPG. I always thought the first game is one of the most unique games made, it's good different in so many ways than others. The menus in the first game were weak? Seriously? I actually loved how they organized the menus in the first game. "Don't really like the radial menu. I think a bar with skills kinda like DA or most mmo's is still the way to go, but i guess they are already making it console friendly." You're somewhat wrong here, a bar? In a Witcher game? Hell no. About this, the sequel now. I don't like that you have to go into that slowmotion thing to choose the sign, or can we assign evey one of those a number? It felt perfect in the first game switching between signs in the battle from the numbers, even without pause. I hope we can deactivate that red screen when we get hit (bloody screen, so real!!! ), it's just annoying and doesn't help with anything. I hate that everybody complained about the combat system in the first game and now they changed it and it looks worse, at least for me. What the hell is everyone talking about? What the hell was wrong with the combat system in the first game?

They changed it because they always wanted it this way. The Aurora simply couldn't handle it.
What was wrong with the menu in the original? It was easy to use and intuitive.
The biggest problem of the original was the storytelling imo. Ot had a great, unique and intriguing story, but it felt too much like a collection of cut pieces at times. There was no flow. I hope they fixed it, but on the otehr hand I'm afraid they want to make the game "epic" turning the story into complete crap.

I know they said that, but do you really think it's only that, do you really think all the whining about the combat system doesn't have anything to do with it? The new combat system is not that bad, but the one from the first game is better.

The only people I see whining about the combat in the first game did it after we saw the change in combat in the second. Funny how that works out.
It was the same deal with ME2. Nobody whined about the combat in ME until ME2 came around and it was the holy grail and ME apparently sucked ass.
They're making the game gamepad oriented which would be the reason for the change in menus. It's also more than likely the reason for the change in combat.
The combat was great, I enjoyed it. The problem is, the combat was only suited for isometric view. When I first played the game I used isometric view, the combat was brilliant imo. Especially seeing heads and legs fly through the place with group mode was awesome. On my second play though, I used OTS view. The combat was out of place, it wasn't as awesome anymore. Sure you can say "just play isometric noob!". When I played OTS though, I realized a lot of the small detail and beauty of the gameworld was lost in isometric. So I welcome this new addition, even though it's much more action oriented. The combat in teh first game was already simple, now it's simple in another way. There is no dumbing down, it wasn't complex or hard in the first place.

When you clicked a button, nothing awesome happened
On the contrary. In W1, indeed every click (with mouse) meant something awesome, since you timed combo attacks with those mouse clicks. Better times clicks, more awesomeness.
P.S.
I never used isometric view in Witcher. Tried it, but it never seemed useful.
I don't know about you but I finished it 4 times and I never played with isometric camera, for me, it doesn't fit the game at all, because as you say, a lot of the game's beauty is lost that way. I don't find playing with OTS camera weird or hard or whatever, it's the same for me when it comes to the combat itself. I still need to finish it again on neutral to prepare my savegame and I will upload it here along with the others, I will reveal more info about the choices I made when I will finish with that.
Another +1 from me on the OTS camera. I've finished the game three times now and never been anything but OTS ... yet the combat always felt absolutely fine to me.

I'd advise to play isometric next time. The novelty is gone of course, so you might not find it as great as I did. The combat looked really impressive in isometric view. When you play OTS the overview is lost, so combat isn't as impressive anymore. This game was and is meant for OTS though, no matter how they implement the combat.
Vid looks very good for a pre-beta. They obviously didn't let themselves be limited by a possible console release. Detail people detail, that's what designing a game is. Not everything has to look fantastic and not every single texture has to be extreme res, add some freaking detail to your gameworld. The small details make the atmosphere, not the goddam shiny plastic walls.
( they gave Geralt a lot of HP's for the sake of the presentation, in realiy it will be much harder of course )
Comments on the gameplay apart (I prefer to hold judgement until I play the game) one thing I have to say: from what has been shown so far, I absolutely love the locations. They look both varied (from what I've seen from previous vids) and very natural in creating a believable world (the mountain village and sorrounding area shown in the vid look very nice).
Looks pretty interesting. I like that there are no loading times between open places and caves f.e.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Even with the flaws and "strange" game design decisions, this game remains one of the few potential excellent games of the year. Considering that DA2 has already been knocked down by the foolish streamlinization process and that Skyrim is still a huge question mark, our only hopes for a proper RPG lie on this game.
