going crazy! something seriously wrong with the PS3's wireless? ONCE i got it to obtain a ip address and connect to the internet, but i disconnected as soon as i left the test window and now it wont get a ip address anymore. If i choose to set everything manually it says ip address success, but fails to connect to the internet :S
Edit: works and fails, works and fails.... Signal strength 80-100

Still no update on a full hack to run the PSN games yet? I guess that and enabling DLC is just the last steps remaining from making it the JTAG equivalent of X360.

I don't see how that matters in any way.
the key is already public knowledge anyway.

Closed System vs Open
MS v Sony
MS NEVER let you online without doing an update first am I right?
Instead sony let you online if you trick their system with dns settings? meaning some people are running different versions online
How is that laying ground for equal competitive gaming on their system?
A bug in 3.55 could enable like 50k people to cheat on a certain game...... whereas all the decent normal people have upgraded their systems the legit way.
Sorry total garbage rant, just makes me laugh when I consider how many RANDOM decisions Sony made when designing their console, and now they are all panicky about it because people hacked it like 5 years later..... lol.

We are obviously exploiting a trick Sony wasn't fully aware of so expect it to be fixed. Ofc i don't know enough to know if they can fix this without client update or they can do it server side.

DNS is blocked by Sony.So no PSN until CFW 3.56 or until new OFW is released by Sony.

So i finally got around modding my PS3, but when i try to play assassins creed brotherhood i get an error saying it couldnt register trophies or something. Tried googling a bit, but it's not very helpful. Anyone stumbled onto the same error and fixed it?

|
 |
Hey guys Ive been out of the loop on the PS3 hacking scene for a while as Ive been working overseas... can anyone catch me up to speed a little? I know we have some knowledgable forum users that could help ... I just cant seem to find what Im looking for.
My current setup is the original PSfreedom exploit using my HTC G1 as the usb dongle on, I believe, 2.41 or whatever that first or second hackalbe firmware was.
Things Im trying to figure out...
1. With the Geohot 3.55 CFW is the need for a usb dongle eliminated? Do we not have to do all the power switching and stuff of yore?
2. I see Kwean 3.55 CFW mentioned but havent been able to track down a source or figure out why it is desirable over another firmware.
3. I have a slim PS3 with a working drive and an old phat PS3 with a broken disc drive... Is there a reliable external method now to use for my broken PS3 that doesnt require a disc in the drive?
If you have an ultimate suggestion on what I could/should use to get my good PS3 slim up and running.. and/or a suggestion for what I could/should do with my broken drive PS3 it would be immensely appreciated. I just want to have a backup machine going, running the latest firmware I should be running with the latest or most stable version of Gaia as that seems to be what everyone recommends.. I still need to look into Multiman, but from what I gather its just a frontend for Gaia and other loaders.
Alright.. flame away! Yes I know how the search function works, and yes Ive heard of Google. Whats the point of being a member here with all you knowledgeable SOBs if I cant call in the occasional request for advice!?

Welcome Back.
Someone may be able to go into more details, but I'll attempt to give you some ideas here.
Ignore Geohot's 3.55 if you're looking to play backups as this will only allow for homebrew.
Kweaw is definitely what you're looking for. It's so easy to install as well. You can find a pretty good tutorial here: http://www.ps3hax.net/2011/01/tutorial-how-to-play-backups-with-kmeaw-cfwpsn-without-risk-of-brick/#axzz1DC5syT00
It is desirable because it is basically the best thing out there right now, requires no dongles and is simple to install. Plus it allows for homebrew and backups and is very stable. As for finding the files for that... someone else may be able to help you with that. They seem to have been removed a lot of places... I think?
You can install it on both of your PS3s. As for the phat with the broken drive, use the latest MultiMan backup manager as it is updated quite frequently and has the ability to play backups without a disc in the drive. Not sure how high the compatibility rate is on that, but looks to be quite successful.
Again, someone else can probably chime in with better information. Watch out as Sony has a newer firmware update (3.56) so don't go online and update

I hope the NPDRM key suddenly appears online somewhere once this court case is over. Geohot must be at least a bit pissed off about being dragged to the other side of the country to fight a legal battle.
