they've not got linux running on CFW 3.55! Still requires a LAN connection to a PC, so not perfect but it won't be long until xbmc on ps3!

Hmm so as OFW is now on 3.56 do I need to download OFW 3.55, install that, and then install CFW 3.55?
Or can I install CFW3.55 from OFW3.56?

you can't go backwards from 3.56 at the minute asaik.
3.55 OFW to 3.55 CFW is fine, but nothing from 3.56

Thanks for the link dude, very helpful!
Now that 3.56 is out, does that mean the PS3 is going to bug me every time I turn it on?
And is PSN access still available on 3.55 even though 3.56 is out? I know you need to use a proxy tool, but it still works?!

Another newb question: I've formatted an external usb drive in FAT32 - what folder should I store games in?
Is X:\GAMES\Game_Directory ok to use?
Can the game directory be anything, or should it be the game ID folder as per download? Reason I ask is I suspect changing the game directory name will make it more difficult for backup managers to identify what game it is, and download content such as box art?

Not sure about the proxy question to be honest. I've been meaning to play around with it but forgot.
If you turn autoupdates off, Sony don't bug you about the update. It's only when you connect to PSN that it asks. Normal network is fine. You can still pickup game updates as well.
I throw all my external games into x:\GAMES\ folder and then leave the folder as the game ID. Not sure if they can be renamed but it does mean its compatible with all backup managers it's just not exactly easy to read. If you 'Show Paths' in multiman you can see what game corresponds to what ID.

On the first question... Do you read this thread??
Its only one page back i think.
Second one
Most backupmanagers come with different versions. Games/Gamez etc
So just look what your manager supports and otherwise you can allways rename the directory.
Empty again

OK thanks.
I have a problem though - as soon as i try to launch a game, it just black screens? I read that I should run this:
http://www.ps3hax.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=570#axzz1BYJQfWgm
However then I read I should run lv2.pkg first?
But that doesn't DOES contain lv2.pkg? What exactly should I do? I tried just running lv2.pkg v6 but that doesnt seem to have helped...

btw i am running latest multiman - the game I am trying to play is stored in OMAN folder from when I was playing around with the original jailbreak.
Maybe the eboot has been patched? Should I get a new clean version of the game? I don't remember specifically patching any eboots though :/

Anyhoo, all of my games that I ripped back in the 3.41 days (a few months ago), black screen when I launch them from multiman. Not sure what I should do, running the lv2.pkg tells me its installed 1 payload and 4 patches - but I still get back screens
I'm starting to think the eboot file on the games I downloaded (heavy rain and vanquish) were modified, and I should get the original unmodified eboot file... Does that sound like a good reason as to why they're both black screening after launching from XBM? |
I did read a few times on PSX-Scene about people who have upgraded from 3.41-3.55, doing something like renaming the folder where their games are stored, fixing permissions and then renaming the folder back to what it was originally. Think it might have been for internal HDD's only though.. I don't know. I only jailbroke my PS3 on 3.55 though, so I didn't pay much attention to what they were talking about.
Edit: Is Heavy Rain just a black screen game on 3.55? Have you tried the latest multiman and loading the game from external HDD by pressing Select + X ?

Remember that the latest multiman versions don't require the lv2.pkg anymore.

In multiman, try the fix permissions. I generally run this anyhows and 9 times out of 10, don't hit problems.

Yep tried fixing permissions on the game from the latest multiman. Both of the games are on the internal hard drive, and are back from the 3.41 days. I guess I could rename the folders and try fixing again... but pah what a hassle!

Ha I was just thinking about this on the commute to work and I suddenly realised what I might be doing wrong...
... I didn't try it with a game disk in the bluray drive ...
I am guessing that is why I got the black screens- but won't be able to test until later tonight!

Thats probably it, the discless directboot is very spotty. Be sure to have a disc in the drive and hit NO when multiman asks for directboot. Then launch the game as if youre launching a normal game from the XMB.
And be sure that you have no patched eboots anywhere, those patched eboots were made so you can run 3.42 or higher games on 3.41. If you have kmeaw 3.55 installed you dont need those, they wont even boot. Always use the original eboot.

With latest MM you can fix black screen issues by running the game pressing [select]+[x].Then answer "yes" on the mount screen. This is for external hdd.
