If you wish to mutilate your device or just want to see what Windows Phone 7 is all about, "well now you can!"

It seems to run just as smooth (and even boots faster) on the HD2 than say HD7 or other WP7-specific phones.

Cheers.

It is quite the device indeed. You can now put natively on it Android and WP7 (and even Maemo I think), in addition to WM6.5.5. And the hardware is pretty indistinguishable, so it is quite worth getting it if you are into development or are just interested in experiencing almost all mobile OSes.

So I don't like the HD2... my reason? Battery life. It's terrible, and everyone I know with one claims this to be the case. Some of them even have to turn off things like wifi and dim the brightness when they're not using it just so it'll survive the day... And having spent quite alot of time on Android I have to say it's not great - I don't like it and I much prefer iOS even in its locked down AppleFag way. If we could get iOS on HD hardware, and it doesn't kill the battery like Android, then i'd get one (as the one great thing about the HD2 is the size screen!)

In my limited experience with Android devices, if you spend an hour on wifi downloading from the Market and installing and playing shit, then battery is fucked Very Happy

If we're talking about normal usage, then it's annoying.

Well indeed it is quite the device. I am certainly considering it for a future purchase if I go into a little phone development (I'll start with the iPhone first). Ability to test so many platforms natively (a NAND hack is used to boot these OSes, none of the Windows Mobile is loaded first).
Of course, other WP7/Android devices have better screens (SAMOLED and SLCD for instance), but the value this phone offers (and the large monitor as well) far outweighs a little better black levels.

Oh BTW, the HD2 was codenamed Leo. Laughing

I aquired an HD2 recently for 240 euros and I'm very happy with it.

Battery life for me is fine but it's only getting light usage. I recharge it once every 2-4 days usually. using it actively for about half an hour a day (watching youtube on the train and stuff) with the occasional call or weather checking and stuff like that.

It's my first smartphone so I can't really compare it, maybe it's worse than other phones but I have no issues with it.

I'm using a custom android froyo build on it btw. Was pretty damn easy to replace the stock WM6.5 considering I'm a total noob with these things.

Do you run it through Haret.exe or is it native using NAND hack?

If you experienced it running Android not-so-recently, then yeah battery life will have sucked, since it hasn't been that long that they were able to get all the drivers working properly. The HD2 is a WinMo device, and despite the HD2 being nearly identical to my phone, "stealing" the drivers is not as easy as you think.

Android itself does not kill battery life, that's such bullshit. My Desire lasts just as long as the iPhone 4's here at the company do Smile

I'm using the nand hack. Installed that magldr bootloader and a nand android rom for that, so when I start up the device it starts in the magldr bootloader which automatically boots straight into android. no windows mobile involved.
