Look for "3.55 EBOOT pkg" or smthg like that on google if you are too lazy to do them yourself (psx-scene.com could help)... But honestly, it's a lot more easier to use a BM, specially since you can update your games doing so.
Freezes ? It shouldnt freeze. But you made the mistake to use a waninkoko cfw, just use that other one that doesn't patch lv2 at all and just rely on peek 2 poke ; BM will patch memory and use syscall36 = no freeze for sure.

Kiwi or whatever he is called firmware doesn't freeze for me since using syscall36

if i had bought it... i'd try to jailbreak it asap but since it's a gift i'm screwed in the ear if i fuck it up some way some how. GAH! Gotta BUY games now.

Thanks for everyones help with links and guides for getting the ps3 cracked.. Managed to wack 3.55 CFW on last night with latest multiman etc... Only arse is I have a 500GB external drive which is empty handy which I want to use for all my games.
Only problem seems the Fat32 restriction hence most games not going on there, tried uncharted 2 and GT5 and neither will go because of the file dimensions of the games.. Little big planet 2 did and rocks but I wanted to try all the others.
I have to transfer the games onto the internal hdd which is an arse also because its a crappy early model 40gb.
Any ideas of NTFS support is in the works for external drives?

If the 4gig + file is a Psarc file, then just use Psarc.exe to extract the file, this will create a dir of the same name. Then just copy that to your external drive and delete the *.psarc file.
I used this exact method to get Uncharted 2 working on a Fat 32 formatted external drive.

Doesn't work well with all games. Tekken 6 takes literally 5 minutes to load a part that would take seconds if the files weren't extracted. Not that I really care, I have a 640GB internal and 1 TB external hdd

This might sounds like a dumb question but w/e.. Is it possible that in the future a game will require you to upgrade you firmware to 3.56 in order to boot? if so is there any way to get it working without upgrading? I don't like the sound of that rootkit thing that has the ability to auto update your ps3.

yes, its not just possible, it will happen. Happened in the past all the time. Its a cat and mouse game between sony and the hackers. They will have to figure out ways to patch the eboots if no cfw for that version has been released.

Man, I'm so tempted buying a PS3 today. It sucks though that using PSN will get you banned and whatnot.. Can you even use PSN without updating to 3.56?

ATM it seems to be possible, with some kinda proxy. But it wont be permanent, Sony will fix this. Hacking and onlinesupport just dont go well together most of the time. Thats why i got my 360 for legit online gaming and my ps3 for "backups".

if the game has no individual files bigger than 4gb you can put it on external (fat32). But with a 40gb hdd i would advise you to upgrade anyway. You will run into problems sooner or later cuz alot of games want to install stuff.

Can dlc be played on JB PS3 on 3.41 i'm looking to play Taximerdist dlc but i have the retail disc which does not have the dlc , so if i copy over the files to retail edition would it work

You cant screw anything up by using a usb dongle, seriously. Just jailbreak the fucker and if you're gonna mess around with custom firmwares and something goes wrong well just buy a new one but the chances of that happening. |
i don't have a dongle and with all the bs coming up with fucked up dongles making their way to homes... and she'd kill me if it got fucked... i think i'll keep it vanilla for now. And i can't open it for 6 more days. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYNESSSSSSSSSSSS!

failoverflow theire site is still not ready failoverflow.com coming soon yeah right.
graf_chokolo pwons them big time he is the best . hoping to see this on 3.55 soon. (check ps3hax.net psx scene is slow latelty.. graf_chokolo done it OtherOS with dualboot and with gameOS rights on 3.41 firmware..)

Graf and kmeaw both competing each other. They even access the RSX, that means port of XBMC or WiiMC will possible.
