Idk.. I thought that the fact the window is named "CryEngine" instead of "CryEngine 3" was very mysterious.. Razz

But it has the new CryEngine logo..

CryEngine 1? wouldn't that be Far Cry (Which is before that hardware existed.) unless I misunderstood. Smile

Ya actually that is the farcry engine, look at those ground textures and geometry at his feet and the shitty weapon model, not to mention he is running 90+fps on very high settings with only 433mb or ram being used?

Heh, well CryEngine 3 is apparently more optimized, haha.
(Something about twice as high framerate with comparable settings or some such.)

That said there's no info on what has changed since the April 2010 version of the SDK or how demanding the actual game will be (Compared to the two test maps in the SDK version.) plus the recent news about DX11 implementation.
(Still the 580 is NVIDIA's current most powerful GPU though revisions as the 590 have been shown also and 585/595 cards are rumored improvements for the GF100/GF100b/GF110 GPU architecture, though 590/595 is said to be a dual-GPU configuration and thus not fully comparable.)

The lighting effects are undoubtfully well made, but the gameplay footage is very flat, generic, uninspired...you sit behind a pot of geraniums shooting at everybody using the camouflage. I predict an incredible amount of campers! Laughing

I agree, but I don't care at all about the MP. So all that matters to me in the MP video is that the lighting is one of the best I've seen.

I agree on that =)

The more time passes by the more I realize that graphics do mean less and less to me, this one of the reasons why I often sound like and old grumpy man: the new games (gameplay wise) have almost nothing to say, the depth is practically nonexitent and innovation is too frequently an unknown word.. Eurogamer did a tech analysis of the PC demo: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-tech-analysis-crysis-2-demo
Most interesting point for PC gamers:
Eurogamer wrote:
This shouldn't be too surprising. As we mentioned in our original piece, one of the key enhancements Crytek has been working on has been adapting to a many-core architecture. Crysis on PC didn't really leverage anything over a dual core CPU, but in the Xbox 360 .cfg file contained in the demo we see that at least five of the six hardware threads supported by the triple-core Xenon CPU are being utilised.

Apparently CryEngine 3 does have more to offer than just scaled back settings for console compatibility.

First of all you wanted to write "360 demo", as there's no PC demo.
Secondly I don't think there's anything new in their analysis as we have already covered everything about the resolution, aa, framerate, 3D, lighting, multicore support, cfg values in this thread.

ha, didnt they promise how awesome it was going to be for quad cores? so take any of that shit with a grain of salt.

crytek should definately get into politics. their bullshit factor is definately high enough for them to qualify.

The engine might be capable, and we know it is from all the "Next-gen ready" promotional bullshit they showed (which was mostly what Crysis had in 2006/2007), but if the game content is not making use of it, who cares what the engine is capable of. For example, tiny maps, no flora, no water oceans, engine supports fully dynamic lighting for each light source, but the content is limited to only a fraction because the derp boxes would sweat, etc.

Yes, I meant X360 demo, just a Freudian slip that expresses my desire to see the PC version in action Wink
The multicore support was new for me though, I must have overlooked it.

From Gamescom 2010: http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,768604/Crysis-2-Everything-about-DirectX-11-3D-without-perfomance-drop-and-8-core-optimization/News/

In addition it is highly optimized for multi core systems: rendering, audio, AI, physics and so on are parallelised and accelerate the game - up to eight cores would be used.

Nice, but I don't like the sepia filter (or whatever it is) which degrades colors, and especially bloom. Glowing houses!

I hope it will be tweakable and we'll be able to turn off such filters.

It took them 3 years to do this!
My expectatioons for this have been higher, never high enouf for a buy, but each new piece of intel/ media seems a bad one. looking coodish

If they add put the team puling "mods" from the original Crysis we would probably have 3 games to pick from... that would still look better than this and probably play better to.

You know what’s funny? When we released Crysis, back then people didn’t judge it for that. I’m frustrated about this. We said it was a game that was pushing boundaries, which would stay relevant in the future, and all we got was a backlash: “This game doesn’t run!” Then games came out for the same hardware that weren’t running at all, or were choppy and whatnot despite low-res graphics. Yet we were the bad guys for pushing PC graphics, making it too expensive to play. Whatever we do seems to be wrong. Anyway, will Crysis 2 have hi-res textures; will it get blurry? Crysis 2 will have a PC version that’s a PC game. We’re going to push it as much as the engine can take. It’ll be at least as beautiful as Crysis, but the context is different. It’s New York. Not a jungle, but an urban jungle. You have to understand that the budget for Crysis was much lower than for Crysis 2. We could spend much more on Crysis 2 because we expected to sell more through multiplatform development. So PC gamers will get a better game out of that; it isn’t just take, it’s also give. The gameplay has received much more research about accessibility, streamlining and making it more fun, but also making it deeper. So every angle is improved. The amount of diligence and production volume we’ve spent makes it so much better than Crysis.

Quote:
I think they were a mix. There was one 360 and the others were PC. But honestly, the PC version hasn’t been shown off yet at all. They were rendered out of PC but at console settings. The PC settings aren’t being disclosed at all right now. We haven’t made any screenshots yet that show the PC settings.
