The fuck, I used to hate this back in the day when it took long time to boot 98 and XP. I restart, and then have to wait for all the folders to load up as well, which extended loading times considerably.

These are usually hardware issues, in majority of cases motherboard issues.

Doesn't say much, run something to stress and test the CPU and/or RAM, that BSOD is a hardware failure most of the time. If you can easily trigger it by stressing your system, try turning off any unused ports in the BIOS (like the good old serial port, firewire); if that fixes it, it's your motherboard, otherwise it'll be CPU or RAM

Sometimes, even reinstalling the same OS might mask the problem a bit because of different memory mapping. But most likely than not, it will get worse and not better.

Mess with your bios settings. Make sure PnP OS is enabled.

Well I remember reading something about this when looking for ways to extend the 360 save memory area. People using usb drives in 360 then back into windows. It has something to do with the formatting procedures..
its fixable If I recall though.

If you reinstall, x64 is good for A FEW applications which calculate a lot of data and can process more data in one run by using all 64bit that the registers of current CPUs have to offer (example: ~10% speed gain in x264). Games do not fall into this category!
Don't bother unless you really, really know that some application you use regularly profits from it.

It's safe. I've had it installed since forever now and it has never done any 'damage' (daz loader, latest version was used to activate windows).

Damn, I must commend MS with Win7. I updated from XP to Win7 on my uncles HTPC and MS really improved mediacenter. It's faster, I didn't have to configure shit manually as with XP (some aspects of mediacenter in XP were a PITA) and it actually does what I want now without any third party app interference (the famous standby tool is not needed, yay!). Hell, even the analog signal looks better now.
