So this is a 2 disc game. My question: can I still play this game from HDD if I only install the first disc? Or are you automatically prompted to pop in the second disc when installing?

You can install DVD 1 at first and DVD 2 later if you want
Oh that's cool! I'm kind of a cheap bastard and don't want to waste Verbatims on a multi disc game that might turn out to be poo. So thanks zilliver69 and shimec

You'll have to burn both discs anyway. You just don't have to install them both, but at some point of the game, you will have to swap discs in your console.
And as Mortibus said, it's a great game, and surely deserves both Verbatims.

No poo here, this game is fantastic! 20 hours of gameplay in gorgeous locations. Incredible moves and powers that I found pretty easy to pull off. 4 separate weapons other than your whip to use. A varied amount of enemies to fight. Really great bosses round out a phenomenal package. This game is a lot like God of War but in a Halloween/Van Helsing world. This is a reinvention of Castlevania. You won't find much to link it to the 2D versions. I will definitely go through this game again.
I actually gave it a 10 out 10 due to length, control, graphics, sound, story and varied game play.
Enjoy!

Is that so... Reviews weren't really unanimous on this game. Some positive, some negative. I really love the 2D games in this series though, I've played it a lot on my DS.

It was a good, epic game, to be honest it needed a decent composer for the soundtrack though. There isn't one memorable track from this game, at least for me. A gothic tone would have been perfect for the part of the game where you were actually IN a castle (which was probably my favorite part).
The first is called ‘Reverie’ and in it players return to the Castle as Gabriel to help Laura, the former servant to the vampire Carmilla, in destroying the unruly evil that was previously kept in check by the recently slain Queen.
Once completed, fans of the series can download the second DLC entitled ‘Resurrection’, which continues the story directly after the end of the game and gives some insight into the dramatic epilogue seen by players upon completion of the game, and Gabriel’s ultimate destiny. This will be larger in scope than the first add-on, as it features a final showdown with a very notorious enemy.
Next stop is the snowy village
Its GOTY for me.
Have fun playing it!
Cheers mate
I'm defiantly enjoying it.
When i first bought it i didn't like it much as it starts slowly.
But now I'm near the middleish of the game, It's getting good.
I like how before every chapter they have someone voice acting about the chapter.

yep, it really sets the mood.
Hope the two DLC packs will be good.
360 has frame rate issues
PS3 has save file going corrupted, (Was it fixed with the patches ? )
To be precise, both versions have severe framerate issues but the PS3 version runs with a few frames per second more. PS3 version is the one to pick for this game.
I've just traded this and 11 other ps3 games in at asda for 109 quid.
Some pretty old tittles too.
Really enjoyed this game gets better as you get going init.
