I tried to watch the BDrip of that movie on the ps3 and they have some audio DRM where halfway through the movie the audio stops and cinavia copy protection bullshit pops up.

Yeah, Cinavia is a newly-implemented protection that seems to be all but guaranteed to be on most Sony-related releases these days. The Other Guys had it, Resident Evil 4 had it, and then Social Network. There were others, but I can't remember what. That's why some movies I watch from my PC-to-TV, and others right on the PS3. It's a watermark in the audio, so outside of watching it on a non-Cinavia enabled player, you're SOL. Bastards.

Newer consoles with 16MB nands install part of the FW on the HDD. only older consoles with 256MB nands don't.

That's awesome. At this point, anything that sticks it to Sony, I'm all for. I understand the idea behind their protecting of their assets, but this whole "sue everybody" thing has got to stop. Here's hoping for continued CFW, every single time they update. Haha.

Hmm. Having a strange problem here, maybe someone can help?
I have my PS3 (old 60GB Phat model) working just fine on Kmeaw cfw 3.55. Smooth sailing for the most part with the latest Multiman loader. However, I also did the same thing to my brother's slim PS3. It's on Kmeaw for sure and I installed the same Multiman onto it. Problem is.. the games do not want to load on that one. Quite awkward.
Everything is the same as on mine (as far as I know). For instance, once a game is loaded through Multiman on the slim, then back to the xmb to run it.. you can run it, but it will pretty much freeze right away - a black screen usually. Castlevania will say "unhandled error". Something tells me I missed something quite obvious (maybe a setting?)
Anyway, any advice would be great. Not sure why it's all working fine on mine, but the same things are throwing a fit on the slim. Thanks all.

Have you tried fixing permissions? In multiman I think you press R1 after highlighting the game, think it's labled patch or something. There is also a .pkg called fix permissions that will do the same thing. You can get it from PSX scene. Run once and all your games should work fine. R1 only needs to be pressed once.
You will need to do this just once, after FTP'ing a game over to the internal HDD, or if you copy from ext USB HDD

i would prefer that they wait for Killzone3 to be released before they release the crack for 3.56. No point in updating now anyway.

Doubt it. Killzone 3 went gold on the 14th. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/01/14/killzone-3-gone-gold-kicks-your-face-in-february-22nd/

Killzone 2 is a 3.50 game afaik, there are no games that are even 3.55 only. So 3.56 ? let me laugh, it won't be in a few months, probably April or so... And anyway, since we can decrypt appldr, we can decrypt 3.56 games to play them on 3.55 in the worst case scenario. So yes whoever that wanna play Killzone 3 for free, will be able to !

Thanks for the advice Newty! Pretty strange but fixing the permissions with MultiMan (even updated to newest version today) didn't work. Using the Fix Permissions pkg actually did fix it, though! All is well. Now the techy side of me wants to sit here and figure out why that worked and multiman didn't. Awesome anyway and I appreciate the help. |
I had that problem, you have to uninstall Fix Permissions, but there's some kind of bug that lets one file you have to manually erase inside dev_hdd0 (now i dont remember the filename), if you dont find it, let me know and i search the right name.
And headshot, if you have any doubt, i recommend you to do it right away! Once you learn a few basics, its really easy to make all of the games run (almost).
