I'm halfway through the game (ch 6) and I must say I'm a bit disappointed. The game in an of itself is pretty damn good, but if you played the 1st it's just more of the same. Same weapons, same mechanics, same inventory and upgrade system... don't fix what's not broken I guess, but it does get boring.
Also, not impressed with the locations. In the first game every chapter had a very distinct setting, and most of all, the levels had a sense of chilling lonelyness and desolation that really gave it that "alone and desperate" feel. In this one, it's mostly apartment buildings and rooms filled with candles... they just feel repetitive.

Again, not saying the game is not good, it is, in fact, pretty damn good by itself, but it doesn't compare to the original in terms of atmosphere.

I'll do a run on Hardcore or Zealot after I finish it on Survivalist. I'm liking the difficulty but only three saves sounds frustrating as hell

Well, when you change the disc after chaopter 6 the game gives you checkpoint there (on hardcore). It's little helpful. The most brutal difficulty is Zealot (without new game +). Enemies do insane damage, ammo and health packs are scarce there. While on hardcore - enemy damage - as normal setting + scarce ammo and health packs. Limited saves and no checkpoints make it to sounds insane...

I just fell through the floor to my death , in chapter 7 ( i think ) when trying to do that silly 'hit the sweetspot' minigame on a security terminal. That was pretty unexpected Neutral

I am having SERIOUS problems on chapter 10. There is a corridor where 2 brutes (after another) charge at you.
I just can't kill the brutes (even the first one) with any reasonable amount of shots. When the brute comes up from the ground, I stase him, and start shooting his weak legs by walking around him. When my stasis runs out, I run back to the door, let him charge at me, back up into the door so he walks back and I can shoot his legs. Now the problem is, it takes AT LEAST 20 shots with the line gun to kill his legs. Something is just not right there. I tried everything, using the bombs, the grenades from the pulse rifle, the fucking thing won't die. I managed to kill him once with only 2 plasma shots left. But then I had nothing for the second brute...
There is no shop in that area, so I can't even buy new weapons or more ammo...

How the fuck should I do this? This is Zealot difficulty btw.

Gabriel and Lexine from Dead Space: Extraction make their Dead Space 2 debut on March 1 as the central cast for the chilling new single-player digital download pack Severed. Here's a scream that will haunt you all day long.

Gabe Weller from Dead Space: Extraction stars in this two chapter side-story, along with Lexine Murdoch and a special guest from the original Dead Space, the Twitcher.

Dead Space 2: Severed will be available for 560 Microsoft points or $6.99 on Xbox Live worldwide and the North American PlayStation Network, with European PlayStation 3 players getting it on March 2.

I thought that next week's downloadable two-chapter expansion to Dead Space 2 was called Severed because it involved a certain Dead Space character who chopped off his own hand.

Wrong.

That guy was in Dead Space Extraction, the Wii and PlayStation 3 game that served as both a prequel to the Dead Space saga and specifically to next week's Severed expansion. But that man, whose loss of a hand was one of Extraction's most memorable and shockingly interactive scenes, is not the star of Severed. Two of Extraction's other Ensemble leads are, Gabe Weller and his girlfriend Lexine.

What's Severed mean, then, I asked an EA rep who played through part of the expansion for me at a demo event in New York. It represents the separation between Weller and Lexine, the EA guy said, and maybe other things. I assume it also involves the limbs you have to shoot off to kill Dead Space's bad guys.

The expansion runs contemporaneously with the Dead Space 2 game's main plot. You're Weller, not DS2 hero Isaac Clarke, and you're a soldier, not an engineer. You're more heavily armed than Isaac was in much of the game, though I was told this doesn't mean Severed is the action-game version of Dead Space 2's horror show; it's not Aliens to the main game's Alien.

The setting is the Titan Mines, an area brought over from the main game's multiplayer and the plot will intersect with Dead Space 2's enough that players may catch wind of events from the main game in these two chapters. I was told the new chapters are substantial, but I don't have an estimate on how long this $7 expansion will last. I was most intrigued by the EA rep's suggestion that this expansion might set the stage for things that come next. A sequel tease in here, perhaps?

We'll see next week, and maybe learn some more new meanings for 'Severed." It'll be out for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but there's no PC version on the release schedule.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I thoroughly enjoyed DS2... but it was painfully short, even when compared to the first one, so paying £5.49 for another 1hr episode isn't quite enticing me at the moment. I think I'll wait for some player reviews.

Bizarre method I know, but have you tried reentering all your CC and address information? There's a lot of hits on Google about that error and it almost always comes down to people suggesting reentering that info and it will clear the error.

Hmmm seems my console was not upto date. Is this likely to prevent my purchasing from the PSN?
I did a scan for system updates and it found one, despite me being on 3.56 before and after the update had installed!

I did hear that 3.56 had more than one version?

Either that or it fixed itself and the fact that I was able to make the purchase is a complete coincidence!

Anyway ... Im finally downloading Dead Space 2: Severed Smile

Yeah, there's two versions of 3.56. One came out first but had the same 3.41 bug that wiped out HDDs if you tried to update ... and then they bought out the silent "second release" that fixed the bug but still had the same version number.

I would guess so.

But do you have a release name or any info on what it is called? I would love to play this, but can only find the jtag version...

So headshot, did you have to complete the campaign in order to play the DLC or is it a separate campaign you can play whenever? I completed the game on PC and getting myself a Jtag now so i have to play the DLC too!
