Well, the makers of Solidshield states that each product protected by their scheme will have a unique "version" of Solidshield, so that sounds like some Random encryption stuff, but on the other hand, Hot Pursuit had Solidshield and was cracked pretty fast... 
I'll bet that this protection is simply hard, because it forces the Cracker to spend a lot of time reverse engineering the Drm. That seems to be the only way of doing effective Drm on games so far.
Ps. When I say effective, I mean that it will most likely stop Zero day piracy and maybe halt Crackers for a week or 2, think about Riddick: Dark Athena and Avatar: The game, they were both protected by some variant of Tages, and they took a long time to crack (Longer than the Ubi Drm).

Anyone want to test something with me? If you have a legit CD key.
1. Activate your game (you should already have done this) now you have 4/5 activations left.
2. Give your key to me (or anyone else for that matter), I active it. 3/5 activations left.
3. I back up the activ.dat file from (file is located here:
Windows 7: C:\ProgramData\Solidshield\0CB82F90358B34CC5D36466A1D5D5714\ or Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Solidshield\0CB82F90358B34CC5D36466A1D5D5714\
4. I de-auth my game installation. Back up to 4/5 activations left.
5. I restore my backed up activ.dat.
6. I play the game and youre still at 4/5 activations. I now proceed to erase the CD key you told me from my memory , promise
7. Profit (unlike EA)

No, that's not strange at all.
What you're suggesting is akin to someone sharing his bank account with strangers to help them out and having faith that when he checks the account a couple of days later, nothing will be missing.

It shouldn't be a problem activating from a country other than the one the key is bought for. THe activation utility will let you enter the ip4 address of a proxy server so if you cop a knock back because yer country hasn't been officially released yet, just whack in the IP of a proxy in a country where it has been released and pref where yer key is from.
But as far as the key share bizzo goes -there may be drongos silly enough to do that out there in the big world wide web but the odds of bumpin into one round here aren't good, one of the cyber-intolerants would have run any such naif off long ago.

I didn't ask you personally to do it. In fact, please don't. But I'm just saying, if someone should happen to feel comfortable sharing their key with a total stranger online, it's great too. Or share it with a real life friend if you want. I'm just bringing you all some information, up to you what you want to do with it.

That activation thing was posted on a russian forum, while it may work, I wouldn't bother and just wait for a crack instead.

Been trying to help someone from cs.rin, whose had key issues. First time brand new retail NEVER opened, was already used by someone else. Customer Support changed it to new key, and have been trying to get key reg'd that customer support said was valid.
But had to wait for 28th.as it was an EU key. Still comes up invalid.
I guess he'll have to try contacting them again.. it doesnt work from here, North America unless I Need to use proxy ?

damn what a lazy scene lately, i bet they are sleeping 90% and cracking 10% or els...hawx2 and ds2 were here already...the world need fresh crackers...the old are tierd (sound like comics  )
i mean read few comments above and see yourself the effect on the comunity , people are loosing it ,the world need new cracker hero.
