I thought it has been made clear that how moddable a game is, does not depend on the middleware being used?

You're telling me that using a derivative of Gamebryo and using a completely new engine is the same thing in terms of modding? (I'm referring to the time windows directly following the release of the game, not long-term modding).

The graphics engine used has nothing to do with how moddable a game is (apart from what texture format etc. is used maybe), it's how the devs design the rest of the game engine. one could use the unreal engine and still add this kind of modding possibilities. In fact the gamebryo engine does not come with this out-of-the-box, the devs have to add this themselves.
Just look at Divinity 2: it uses Gamebryo but is hardly as moddable as Beth's games are, if it is at all.
A list of games that use gamebryo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamebryo#Industry_use

Yup this is 100% correct, in fact Divinity 2 had (if I can recall correctly) just a couple of texture mods and nothing else, and DKS will probably be "forever mods-less" Razz
What I meant is; with an engine which is a derivative of GameBryo the modding community could benefit of this situation and use their vaste knowledge to create interesting mods right after the release of the game (assuming that Bethesda won't act like a cunt making things hard, but I guess it's not the case) Smile

lol @ equating Ultima's reboot every game with TES.

Adding to the game vs removing

I just hope to god they replaced that damn "Can my friend work here?" Animator, as well as hire more than 5 voice actors barring the token B/C/D-List celeb. Other than that, I just hope this thing wont be a lagfest like every gamebryo Beth game, I really REALLY hope this new engine will make up for all that.

This time around there should be a whole village of naked nord barbarians that have been bewitched by some foul coven of witches, so much so that they got enchanted out of their clothes and lost their axes, too.

Same here Laughing. I just couldn't get into that lore which is very rich, but somehow really boring too (for me, of course). I played Nehrim for a couple of hours and it's completely different, reminds me more of the Gothic games which I always prefered over the TES games.

As one who grew up on the likes of Wizardry, Lands of Lore, Realms of Arkania, Might and Magic and yes The Elder Scrolls, it seems like I spent my youth playing and understanding lego technic - with a wealth of possibilities thats near limitless.
And then now, all thats served is fisherprice and I obviously think thats shit compared to what I'm used to.
But then theres all these toddlers who grew up thinking that Zelda is an RPG. And now that they've discovered fisherprice, they think it's the best thing since slice bread as it's so pretty and accessible Evil or Very Mad

I grew up playing Zelda, but I went back and played the Baldurs gate games, I guess this gives me just enough Derp to have loved Oblivion, but enough taste to also enjoy a good RPG.. Hybrids will inherit the earth

That was amazingly said.

Remember when the Japanese started making Wizardry spinoffs? Just started going downhill from there. Some of them were ok I suppose.

Edit:

Now that you mention it, a few months ago I had to correct my friend and explain to him why Zelda is not an RPG.

Indeed, Zelda is a shooter. Might even be considered a swordfighting simulator.

Zelda is a nice action adventure type of game!
Replaying Morrowind atm. Gonna do heavily modded Oblivion next. And then I'll do Daggerfall damn it. Way too long since I last played Daggerfall.
