lvl2.pkg patches lv2 memory(?) when you run it from XMB to allow the backup managers to run.

put the 3.55 OFW and the patch file in the bspatch folder
create a new txt document and type bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3CFW.PUP patchfile
rename it from .txt to .bat and double click, a dos screen comes up, runs the patcher and your left with a file called ps3cfw.pup which is roughly the same size as ps3updat.pup. |
I didn't get it....

Otherwise, it is suggested that you upgrade to 3.55, Upgrade to this patched PUP, then install the lv2.pkg.
This is only until apps are updated to include this patch themselves, as then you wont need to run the patcher on every boot.
For Stock ps3's
1. update to official 3.55
2. bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3CFW.PUP patchfile
3. Delete PS3UPDAT.PUP
4. Rename PS3CFW.PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP and that's it! You're ready to install
5. Install lvl2.pkg
6. Launch backups with manager |
you patch the official sony firmware with kmeaws patchfile to create CFW KMEAW 3.55, which is used to flash your stock PS3. |
I strongly recommend following, and subsequently installing, ONLY this. You use Kmeaw's patchfile to create your own CFW from the 3.55 .pup. Once installed, you're using the Kmeaw CFW. You don't need Geohot or Wutangzra at all. All you'll need to do, for now, is run the LV2Patcher whenever you reboot your machine - though expect that to change as backup managers start incorporating it =)

Sabin, you noticed anyone saying games are working that didn't work using the dongle due to the memory being used already and the black screen issue?

But, anyways, I figured out why I was confused!

Theoretically, everything that didnt work before, should work now. Because we are on 3.55 now.

I've been away from the scene for a week and it looks like there's a bunch of stuff I've missed, what custom FW is out now, and which is the best? Kmeaw FW? Is it safe and does it work pretty much like 3.4x? Which backup manager should I use to go along with it etc?

had that too.
already wanted to replace the drive with a 500 GB one but that idea fell out the sky since the ps3updat.pup did not get" found" on my usb stick.
although the drive was being prepared 5 minutes before that. suddenly I came to conclusion that it was damaged after going from 320 to 120GB hard drive which did work...so I have a hard drive that is now damaged and I R screwed

I've only just woke up, not seen anything like that yet. Sounds great though Except, the Lv2Patcher *is* PL3, or Hermes. You have to run it to emulate the payload, so there might be a version of LV2Patcher out that is Hermes instead of PL3, but it still needs a backup manager to incorporate it.

Not yet mate. Give one of the CODs a try, they used to black screen didn't they?

Very true, but at least you're not a newbie and you have the capacity to learn! God, some of the people on P-Scene you'd think they'd never so much as breathed on a keyboard >_>

750GB. Different makes and models, but you won't be able to get any larger than 750GB without ripping apart the internal HDD caddy, due to the fact the machine only handles 9.5mm drives -- and the largest capacity THEY come in is 750GB. Any higher are triple-platter drives at 12.5mm. Even IF you rip apart the internal caddy, the maximum the PS3 can use/see/address is 1TB.

just a bit of useless information here.
when i was on wanininkoko's CFW 3.55 i could NOT play divx/xvid content via remote play on my psp, it came up with an error when i started playback.
with this new CFW we have now, the wutangrza one etc...divx/xvids work fine via remote play, so thats just another bit of proof that wanin's is very unstable and does wierd things

the 750 GB makes a stupid jump from as being a 500 GB for 54 euro to a 750 GB 95 euro ....bit of a rip off if you ask me.

ok so even western digitals scorpio serie are no problem either ? cause i believe i read somewhere those where not okay and better to use samsung or seagate as internal drive.
