And there are a few successful slim updates reported now.

Twitter Update:

I recommend updating first to OFW 3.55, then to CFW 3.55. I'm sorry for all the consoles that have died, this was unexpected :S

sorry mate, just copy and pasting from psgroove, i didnt put it in capitals myself.

seems indeed people just upgraded from their current fw to waninkoko cfw 3.55 what causes the bricking.

from what i understand u should use the cfw from geohot after you have officially updated to 3.55 and then use the cfw from waninkoko.

kinda weird though, why cant this be done in 1 step ?

Wow... what a development to wake up to! TWO versions of 3.55 CFW, one of which is actually ready to go with backup managers like MultiMAN. Epic stuff Very Happy

.... but I'm not installing it. Not until there's more confirmation that it works. Too many people claiming bricks and I just don't want to take that risk Wink

I updated my fat PS3 (CECHK04) straight from 3.41 (without using jailbreak) to waninkoko's 3.55 and all went well. After that launched gt5 via multiman, updated the game and it (+PSN) works just fine Smile

Looks like its more console dependant as well.. Its clearly not tested properly so I would wait incase theres any nasty hidden suprises like the blu ray playback thing for example.

And I've noticed most are upgrading okay from the OFW's

I would wait tho its not worth it to risk your ps3 now , it will soon be clear what is precisely the cause of these bricks.

No idea, should do. In answer to your second question yes and it uses the GIEA manager login details.

Bought my PS3 about 2 months ago and I think it came with 3.42, but I updated as soon as an update was released by Sony and ended up on 3.55. I flashed my console with egohots version when it was released.

So.. today I patched the official firmware (which I downloaded from Sony today) with Waninkoko's patch, Installed the official firmware (3.55) in recovery mode FIRST, then installed the patched firmware. I followed all instructions to the letter.

If there are any details I have missed please ask.

Oh and of course I checked the MD5 and SHA1 with the file I was left with.
