yeah probably a case of people not knowing how to patch or blindly running things they shouldn't
Plenty of the post patch .pups being uploaded now . just be sure to check the md5#

Applies CFW3.55
- Wtf.My machine is dead.
Remembers he was on spoof 3.55...and 3.41JB..

sorry mate, just copy and pasting from psgroove, i didnt put it in capitals myself.
seems indeed people just upgraded from their current fw to waninkoko cfw 3.55 what causes the bricking.

Did you patch it using bsdiff and check the md5# ? also what version where you on prior to updating ?

So I have a slim on 3.41, Let me get this right I should update to the official 3.55 firmware? Then put console into recovery mode and install the cfw? How do I put the ps3 in recovery mode?
Very exciting news indeed but Im not willing to just give it a try and brick my baby

Used bspatch win32 patched the cfw_patch to the official 3.55 update and checked md5, it all checked out.
Mabey I was supposed to patch to geo's cfw?

from what i understand u should use the cfw from geohot after you have officially updated to 3.55 and then use the cfw from waninkoko.
kinda weird though, why cant this be done in 1 step ?

Wow... really excited by all this news
I JB my ps3 right from the start but i made it original again so i could play my GT5 copy
So atm i run still 3.5 .... Think im gonna wait a couple of days to see all the possibiltys before doing something stupid.
Sabin did you install this new method?

Any links to the thread with bricked ps3's?I fancy a laugh, seriously what idiot risks doing this?Fair enough you have alot of money and a few ps3's laying around ok but someone with 1 ps3 and no funds to buy another is just wrong.

Looks like its more console dependant as well.. Its clearly not tested properly so I would wait incase theres any nasty hidden suprises like the blu ray playback thing for example.
And I've noticed most are upgrading okay from the OFW's

No idea, should do. In answer to your second question yes and it uses the GIEA manager login details.
