i guess me2 spoiled me a bit.. would have been nice to keep events and relationships from the first game.. seems a bit cheap to just lump your entire first game experience into one of 3 generic starts.. d'oh well... makes importing a save game pretty trivial now, really.. |
I don't think that the savegame will only pick one of the 3 starts, I think some individual choices will be seen later as well, else it would just be too boring. |
Yes, what we were saying was that it will have 3 presets along with the savegame importing tool if you don't have a savegame. That is the biggest choice in the first game, but if you have a savegame most probably it will take other decisions to the second game too.

Nice, I love how the guys from CD Projekt handle the developer diaries.

Couldn't agree more. These guys are sooo getting my money. (I'm not being sarcastic or anything, I'll preorder the Collector's Edition as soon as possible.)

CD Projekt seem to be one of the few left that actually are doing this because of their passion for gaming. Not just going in for another cashcow...
I sense a little from how developers in the earlier years thought about things. Making fast money is not the primary goal.

Already knew that by just seeing the combat changes.
It was pretty damn obvious.
Looking more and more like it follows the ME > ME2 formula..

I think it will go a bit more in that direction, yes. But just because the combat style of witcher 1 wasn't really possible to do on a console doesn't mean it's inherently better. It worked fine, but it was only satisfying in the sense that limbs and heads would fly quite often. The actual clicking and timing wasn't very satisfying. IMHO of course. I still liked the combat but wouldn't mind a change.

I'm not against any changes, but not all changes are good like almost all devs seem to think right now.
Not every "RPG" has to play like an action game/FPS/TPS.

As stated several times before, most people and the press seem to have hated the original combat. So it's obvious they overhauled all of it. The previous engine was also very limited, CDprojekt said the combat in Witcher 1 was never what they intended. Aurora simply couldn't handle a more action oriented combat system. So they're not selling us out or anything, they're just doing what they wanted initially.

The witcher 1, pre-enhanced edition, was already simple with some hard parts. The combat was never hardcore. It's all about the gritty world and the RPG aspect.

I didn't play the original Witcher because of the combat, so I can't wait for the 2nd one as the 1st was clearly a well crafted RPG.

There's nothing we can do and any nerdrage would be useless at the moment. Although the gameplay videos released until now haven't shown anything particularly impressive, I still have faith that they won't fuck this up.

"The Witcher 2 is due for release on PC on May 17th 2011. Console versions will follow at a later date. "
Here's hoping we see this line written more frequently by other companies.

Quote: | Will there be mode of active (tactical) pause?
Well it's not going to be like total pause but more of a way to slowdown the gameplay.
It will give you advantage to choose a sign or a sword.
But for example you will not be able to meditate during the fight or drink potions.
This will be impossible, but choosing tactics will be allowed.
So no potions through the fight anymore?
Yes.
The alchemy works slightly different.
You can meditate anywhere and you can drink any potions that you like, but you can't do it in the fight.
You have to prepare for combat beforehand.
On the other hand you don't need to find a fireplace to meditate. |
Whaaaaaa-
When I first read about the no potions during the fight thing I thought it was an error in translation. Wtf? So I guess there will be no use in making health potions, because you will only be able to increase your health AFTER the fight... Well... I'm kind of on the fence about this decision. :S

Thought so myself, but the Swallow still has a very good use. On the other hand, potions like White Raffard's Decoction (instant recovering of some life points) will not be anymore I think, since you can't use them in battle. After the battle you can rest, so again, there's no use for them. There are some things in the sequel that I like what they did with, but there are some that I don't like. I'm just hoping for the best.

If there are health potions in the game i bet all i own that they are usable in combat. I bet the potions he's talking about now is the ones that increases your combat abilities in any way.

Health potions in Witcher unless I'm completely wrong in what I remember here merely increased your vitality generation rate and didn't heal a specific amount when used so they're still extremely useful and with a decent duration can be used without too much trouble before entering a known dangerous area or combat encounter or such.
Also while not really new there's some screen here showing the silver and steel sword plus sheath, sewer / prison environments and conversation screens.

yep there wasnt anything to instantly increase ur health, only regeneration, so you had to plan ahead and pop one before the fight.
personally i like how all that sounds.. not pausing like last time, but slowing things down, and requiring you to plan ahead... whats not to like?
sigh... i wish may was after february.. january, february, may, march, april... thats how it SHOULD have been... but noooo they had to fuck it up, and now we have to wait for aaaaaages...

There is a potion to restore vitality instantly, it´s called White Raffard's Decoction. Along with swallow it´s the potion i used the most -maybe 3 or 4 times, tops.

Well, I sure am into The Witcher a lot more than others. I like to experiment with all the potions, oils, bombs and weapon enhancements. I already mentioned the White Raffard's Decoction a few posts up, which is a pretty vital potion in the first game from my point of view. The first game is so much richer than what it seems at first. Today or tomorrow I'm going to finish the game the 4th time (3rd complete playthrough).
