|

Quote: | EA has recently changed strategies in the PC digital distro space. NFS: Hot Pursuit came to Steam one month after launch. Dead Space 2 currently remains nowhere to be found except at the EA Store and retail (both at a $60 base price).
Now, Dragon Age 2 appears on Steam one day after the Signature Edition cutoff date, also at a $60 price point (shared with the EA Store, D2D, and retail, but the Impulse version remains $50 for whatever reason). The Signature Edition included an additional party member and his associated content (like the Stone Prisoner with DA:O) as well as the game soundtrack, for preorders placed up until January 11th. |

NFS: Hot Pursuit - one month late on Steam, insistance that no Steam version was even planned
EA Create - not coming to Steam
Dragon Age 2 - this kerfuffle
Dead Space 2 - not coming to Steam
Darkspore - apparently not coming to Steam |
Perhaps since they see DD distribution as the future: http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66189 they want to expand their own store by boycotting (although they claim that's not the case) the #1 DD service on PC: Steam..?
And apparently EA decided that all their new games are going to cost 60$ on the PC

That is very good strategy to battle piracy, yes, I definitely thought that PC games were $50 because we always get shitty versions of those games on pc, but making all their games $60 is just ensuring the customer that PC versions are up to snuff with the amazing console versions.
Unless the game has amazing mp experience, not many people will shell out the full price for a mainly sp game, especially when you are not sure how the game will turn out (DA2).
All their games can be pirated without missing anything or wait until they are on sale.

Bad idea if you ask me, i know a lot of new gamers that won't buy it unless its on steam.
Really.
But in reality, I don't imagine DA2 will be selling as well as the first one did on PC, as it looks like even the console gamers are upset about DLC being announced before game release.
EA Create - LBP wanna be.
Dead Space 2 - I did not like the first, not scary, to easy, even on hard.
Darkspore - meh.
I think their ruining potential customers IMO.

I'll pirate every game I get my hands on before I pay €60 for them. Screw any greedy bastard publisher who thinks they're going to rape MY wallet.

Better make a thread on increasing bread and milk prices too. Everything in the world has its price increased at some point.
See you guys in the milk and bread increased price thread!
EDIT: Oh yah, a bridge I drive on into New York just went up from $5.50 to $6.50, someone make a thread please.

$60 is still less than the fucking prices we pay here in Europe, let alone the €60 it'll be for us. Better be games as good as they were a decade ago, and not the craptastic shit we had last year.

i have no problem paying 60 for a good game as long as it doesn't have a draconian drm.
but... if ds2 doesn't come to steam on release day ill just torrent the game.

$60? Due to bailouts and 'stimulus' the dollar has been devalued. Get used to higher prices in dollars for everything. Blame Keynesian economics, not EA.

That's the crux of the matter. $60 isn't all that bad, thanks to America's laughably shit economy, but publishers KNOW this so they price it per-currency. $60 to Yanks? €60 to Eurofags. Pretty soon they'll be doing £60 to Britfags too. You can't win. The only choice is to force these greedy fucks out of business. Let greater, kinder, overlords rise from the ashes!!111

if its a physical medium with a 100 page manual and a figurine or a USb stick with some shit on it and free DLC with a good cover art then 60$ is a fair price
but
we are talking here about a digital download that should be dirty cheap for not having Logistics costs , Ecology taxes and other costs counted IN the price of the game... as of now those DD games have Server costs , Marketing costs , Provider costs and EA profit and those create the price ... so one of those factors made those games SO expensive
