As far as I can see, we have the decrypting keys but not the signing. Geohot released all the tools you could need, but excluded the keys from the tools. Thus the signing element of his tools doesn't really work.
But now it seems we don't need to sign stuff to get it working, we'll let geofag etc sign new fw's and then we'll let others find ways to play games on those fw's.

Anyone can sign FW.
Its retail PKG's (IIRC) that cant be signed at the moment, but thats only a matter of time as (this is of three days ago) two wernt found the same.
and you need two the same to use the random number and calculate the key.
Geohot removed the need to sign the PKG (or whatever part of the signing process it was I forget) so we dont need to sign that.
as to signing the firmware its easy, just take apart KaKaroto's create_cfw.sh to see.

i see, which is fine but only if you update to a much bigger HDD. I guess thats what we all may end up doing then. |
Got my 640gb drive being delivered tomorrow. I'm on 3.55 FW and can't wait to be able to download games. Also going to rip some of my originals to save swapping disks.

So Geohots custom FW doesn't run any managers, but allows you to install homebrew? Are you saying with the CFW 'Install Packages' option now appears as it would if you ran JB? Or in other words, does the CFW allow you to install packages without the need of a JB?

Yes, you can install/run custom packages without the need of a JB dongle now -- but said packages need to be signed with Geohot's tools first.

Sabin: How does this method of Deans work? You say it runs as if it's booting from BD, do you have to keep deleting and copying the games to that specific location you mentioned earlier every time you want to run one?

so did anyone try to patch a eboot.bin and resign/package it ?
i tried it with red dead redemption, unsigned the eboot.bin, hexedited it to change the path, resigned the eboot.bin, edited the sfo to make it a hd game, made a psn pkg and patched it. after running it on a ps3 with the geohot jailbreak it created the minimal files in hdd0/game/BLESxxxx so i ftped the remaining usrdir files without overwriting the already present eboot.bin but upon lanching it from inside the gamestab i get a error.

TBH I really hope Sony finds a way to have people stay off PSN if their console is hacked. I don't play online but I feel sorry for people that do if there are going to be cheats. The 360 solution is fair enough. If you want to play online, pay up for the games. If you wanna pirate get another console.

I never had any doubts you were a complete retard and a douche, but you really keep proving yourself time and again. I am a pirate and TBH I don't care if people play on xbox live with pirated copies, I voiced my personal opinion on the matter though. What I did care about was the possibilty of cheating destroying PSN for legitimate users. Hopefully it'll be adressed.
