Well, there are lots of "sandbox" games on consoles too. And they do work: Oblivion, Fallout 3, GTA series. Even Assassin Creed games are very open.

It's just naive to think they're making a multi-platform engine and then will just use it to make a pc-only game. As for a small company making seperate games for PC and consoles; not gonna happen. Heck, not even any larger companies does that. Sims is a bad example since it's difficult to convert that game directly considering the control scheme. For FPS games that's not an issue. As for making the engine marketable, sure. They're likely going to do that *in addition* to making a multi-platform game themselves.
Clinging to every possible bit of hope that this won't turn the series into yet another console shooter is, in the highest likelihood, going to make you disappointed. As I said earlier, the only real hope we have left is that this very likely multi-platform release won't ruin too much of the game.

It's called "waiting for a fucking confirmation". Am I doubtful? You bet your ass I am. Do I go bitching about it? No. I'll bitch all over the place when they come out and flat out say: "we will release the game on consoles too"...AND/or...when the game turns out to be a derpization. There is simply no point in moaning about it until we know more.

The game will definitely be released on consoles too. They've already paid for the devkits, and now that they are creating a multiplatform engine it's only logical that they will want to put them in good use by making multiplatform games.

Well, that's where I disagree. I like to voice my concerns *before* they screw everything up, not after, at which point it's too late to do anything about it anyway.

Considering that the devs had so many technical problems with the first pc only games it sounds like a really bad idea to go multi platform...Especially since they're apparently working on another in-house engine for it. They had to cut out vehicles for the first games because they just couldn't get them to work (or teach the NPCs to drive, I don't remember). I'm expecting massive delays here.
As far as the whole "dumbing down for consoles" thing goes, I don't think that's a given. With a game like this there could very well be a more complex version for pc and a dumbed down one for consoles. At least in terms of UI they'd have to greatly differ for this kind of game.

When I see the words "Health regeneration" then I will really start to worry.

Now they've just streamlined it! Why bother with hunting down, and equipping, all those pesky artefacts? They just get in the way of the real meat of the game; taking on the whole Russian army and mutated denizens of the zone with your bare hands and a chainsawgun!!!!!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 won't be compromised on PC, says GSC
When we first reported on the STALKER 2 reveal, we noted for the first time the series would be going multiplatform. Many readers were understandably concerned it wouldn't be feasible to create a proper STALKER installment on PC while also developing versions for consoles -- something would have to be sacrificed.
Thankfully, developer and publisher GSC Game World -- answering questions from fans via its Facebook page -- assures enthusiasts there's nothing to worry about.
"Since we develop primarily on PC, you won't see any compromises in the PC version," they explain. "The key difference between the PC and console versions will be the beauty of graphics (meaning PC will offer more visual effects)."
They also say UI elements like the inventory and map will not suffer at all, and as with Call of Pripyat, DirectX 11 will be supported (hopefully with more love this time).
In other words, the PC version is still top priority -- they'll be working backwards from there. Given the studio's expertise with the platform, we trust they'll know how to work it out.

Maybe there will be a Derping Artifact!
When you equip it you can use Leo's one button method and take cover behind objects so you can regenerate health and glue up your wounds. Bandages? We don't need no stinking bandages!

All the three STALKER games feature health regeneration...
Spoiler: | ... when you equip certain artifacts, but hey, it's there! |
|
I'm currently playing Call of Pripyat and I'm sure health regenerates without any artifact.

Unless I'm mistaken. :S | There also are certain armors that regenerate your health and stop the bleeding ( although most of them need some upgrading to do that ).

Still at the beginning of the game, default armor. Only played for a few hours so far, appeared to me like health regenerates automatically as long as you're not starving/bleeding/radiated.

Q: What will be the biggest difference between S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and the previous games, if any?
A: In brief, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will offer new story, new set characters (with some good old ones) and, of course, the new engine powering it.
Q: Will there be more of a survival element to STALKER 2?
A:Yes.
Q:What features have been removed/compromised in the PC version due to the multiplatform release?
A:Since we develop primarily on PC, you won't see any compromises in the PC version. The key difference between the PC and console versions will be the beauty of graphics (meaning PC will offer more of visual effects).
Q:Will there be any new kinds of interaction with NPCs?
A: How do you mean? It's difficult to answer this one.
Q:Will Sidorovich be in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2?
A:I will refrain from answering this one for now.
Q:Will the faction wars return?
A:No.
Q:Will the interface (inventory, map, etc) on the pc version suffer (like other games have) by trying to cater for console systems?
A: No, whatsoever.
Q:Will there be any new mutants?
A:Yes.
Q:How many weapons will be in Stalker 2?
A:It's difficult to give the quantitative figure at this point.
Q:Which part of the zone will it take place? Or is it the zone at all?
A:We'll be locating the game in the triangle of CNPP, the cities of Chernobyl and Chernobyl 2 (where the huge antenna is located).
Q:Is Zone going to be a large single ?
A:Let's postpone this question for now.
Q:Will it support DX11?
A:Yes.
Q:Will we see more X-Labs and secret underground complexes?
A:Yes.
Q:Will GSC expand on the import-a-weapon feature introduced with Nimble, and allow players access to more varied and custom weapons from outside the Zone by importing them through specialist contacts?
A:We have some interesting new ideas on this matter.
Q:Will artifacts be something we can go out and transmute through Anomalies?
A:No. However, the area of artifact application will expand.
